In the video game Saint's Row 2, I enjoy headshotting pedestrians with my pistol from as far away as possible, and then jumping out of helicopters. In Team Fortress 2, I like to sneak up behind people and stab them in the back as a Spy (or shoot arrows through their skulls as a Sniper). Yet in real life, I do none of these things and I know that the people who do do these things are abhorrent individuals who deserve life in prison.
In real life, there are real consequences to one's actions that can negatively affect another individual, and this feeling of empathy stops us from going kill crazy. In dreams, you're interacting with figments of your own imagination, figments who are as real as the pedestrians in Saint's Row 2. Thus, one is completely free to experiment and live out their own fantasies. Who hasn't ever contemplated how awesome it would be to be the protagonist in an action movie?
As for rape, experimentation in dreams can help one discover one's kinks. Rape in the real world is a complex crime that focuses mostly on feelings such as anger and a sadistic desire for control, whereas rape in lucid dreams seems to be, at least in my opinion, a method of experimentation and possibly an outlet for people whose fantasies may include illicit or dangerous activities.
In conclusion, I see no reason to suggest that most people interested in performing socially unacceptable activities in dreams are mentally unwell.
