hi all, a quick question:
I LD about once or twice a week: Sometimes on weekends when I get to sleep in, other times during mornings where I do WBTB. In both cases, I find that I am extra sleepy the following day. Perhaps it is due to a disruption in my sleep routine? Or maybe it's because being conscious during dreaming is taxing or takes away from normal sleep/recuperation?
Just curious if others have experienced this, or if there is an obvious explanation...thanks!
No, your brain shouldn't be affected in the way you describe it, you're still asleep and only lucid for a small part of your entire cycle. Being conscious in a dream doesn't sleep deprive you. I suggest that whenever you get lucid, try sleeping a bit more after that.
I think you're deluding yourself.
Maybe you're waking up from your lucids and not falling asleep before having to wake up? Lucid dream is a dream, not an interruption of the REM stage, so you shouldn't be feeling sleep deprivation unless you're making really long WBTbs I think :?
I've always felt invigorated and refreshed after having a lucid, especially when it breaks a dry spell. I have never felt more tired from a lucid.
How many hours of sleep do you get on nights that you lucid? Are you sleeping more or less than you normally do?
+1 I always feel very rested, and rejuvenated after a Lucid. And like was said, when you LD, you are still dreaming, and in the REM stage, so there is no interuption in your amount of sleep, unless you are depriving yourself of sleep during WBTB's, or writing in your Dream Journal for an hour afterwards before getting back to sleep.Quote:

Thanks everyone for the input. I suppose this seems to be a "me" thing. Two quick responses:

so on the WBTB nights, it's usually because of insomnia. I will wake around 3 or 4am, not easily fall back to sleep, so I will read for a bit, then go back to bed and try to LD. on those nights I probably get less than 8 hours of sleep, so that could be the cause of tiredness. On the weekends, I tend to DEILD toward the end of my sleep cycle. On those days, I definitely get more than 8 hours of sleep (sometime up to 10 hours). So maybe I am extra tired from catching up on sleep debt? Or from sleeping longer than my usual period?

"Deluding" myself? that is curiously strong language. I am sure the average person out there would assume that all of us are "delusional" with our "crazy hallucinations" of having "make-believe so-called lucid dreams." I know my own body, and I can tell when I am tired or not. I never once said LD= being tired, I simply asked if other experienced what I experienced. There is no need to use dismissive language...
Anytime I get more or less sleep than I usually do I'm tired the next day. I normally sleep 7-9 hours. If I get 6 or less, or 10 or more I'll be tired and groggy. I'd suggest trying to get the same amount of sleep and see if that helps.
