Waking Life vs. Lucidity
Okay, so I don't know if I'm the only person here to have thought this. Probably yes. I don't even know if this makes any sense - it does in my head though.
But as I was going through my school books just now I picked up a piece of paper that was a history worksheet. So I picked up my history exercise book and threw the paper inside, however, after about two seconds I realised it was in fact my English book. A simple case of absent-mindedness, right? Yes.
But this made me wonder, because you know when you're having a non-lucid dream, you're basically in the same mind state as when you're doing something absent-mindedly in real life. I know I am.
When you become lucid, your conscious just focuses its attention onto the dream.
So, I was thinking, I could have lucid dreams and non-lucid dreams, as well as, it struck me, essentially lucid life and non-lucid life.
The only difference being, well, waking life is a shared reality which society accepted as THE reality. That and the fact that it is more common to be lucid in waking life than it is in a dream.
This is just an interesting thought I had, and decided to share it. :P

That's basically lucidity in a nutshell, and how it contrasts to waking life. Waking life is a normal dream, awareness in waking life is a lucid dream.
-
But then lucidity wouldn't be so hard to achieve, if it isn't much different to what you experience during the waking periods of your life, right?
-
Well obviously you are wrong, as so many find lucidity hard to achieve. If you were right, people would be going on about what they did in lucid dreams, not mostly asking for advice and tutorials on how to get in them.

Awareness is the key, whether you are awake or asleep. Of course, it is much more difficult to remain aware when dreaming.
One big difference I've noticed between unaware dreaming and unaware reality is myself. In dreams, I rarely play the same character. I will think completely differently from the way I do in waking life. My actions and thoughts are a total mess. In reality, even if I am unaware, I tend to think and act the same way.
When I become aware/lucid in a dream, it becomes blatantly obvious. Often, the first thing I do is say to myself, "What the F* was I just doing? What the hell was I just thinking!?" My whole personality and sense of self comes crashing back. When I become aware in reality, it is a much more subtle change. I never seem to forget who I am in waking life.
