Is it possible to scare yourself away from having lucid dreams?

I was doing great in the beginning of this month, I even managed to have lucid dreams three nights in a row! But then I had a nightmare on the forth day and now I haven't had a single lucid dream in three days.

And before that^ I've also had another nightmare situation, in which I was lucid but I couldn't wake myself up and I kept having false awakenings and stuff, it was horrible. But I managed to get over that but ever since I keep having nightmares. And they're kinda making me worried about becoming lucid, but still I want to continue having LD.

But is it possible that I got so scared from all of these nightmares (non-lucid and lucid) that I'm afraid to become lucid which results in me not being able to have lucid dreams?

      Yes?

Have a big problem with the "fear" aspect when trying to lucid dream/OBE.

Though my situation is a little different. Its more about "entering" the lucid dream, rather than being scared of being inside the lucid dream.

I get this wierd "scared" feeling, even though I shouldnt be scared of anything. It just stops me in my tracks from entering a lucid dream or going OBE.

People say "there's nothing to be scared of, dont worry about it and relax" but it's not that easy, maybe they have not experienced it themselves.

Either way, you seem to be having good success and dont actually seem afraid, but more worried that your "sub-conscious" is afraid. Would just keep at it.

I often have "nightmares", they are pretty interesting now a days... even entertaining once your used to it =]

I am sorry to hear about that. How is your sleep pattern? Do you get 8 hours of sleep or do you stay up late most of the time? Your diet might also be a source for your bad dreams. How often does this happen? Is it just a recent thing? What about in the past?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am just trying to get a better idea of what is going on. Yes it is very possible, because I have that problem a lot myself. I just get so nervous, a lot of questions pop in my head. What will I experience once I become lucid or try to become lucid? For most people it is a big unknown, and human's have a natural fear of the unknown. That is why a lot of people are scared of the dark because they can't see if anything is in there room. The dark leaves a big (unknown). It is just what makes us human.

If you really feel uncomfortable wanting to go lucid you don't have to, you can just wait until you get more information on it before you try it again.

Lucid dreaming takes three things: Patience, practice, and perseverance.

Most of us have experienced this fear while transiting the stages to lucidity. Its completely natural and you must learn to ignore the fear by thinking about positive things, things you will do once your lucid, and the kind of world you are about to enter... because literally, when this fear stage hits, you are seconds from lucidity.. its very natural. Every night, when everyone enters sleep, the fear center in the brain becomes very very active, but the typical person is already asleep and don't notice it. But entering into a lucid from a waking state, we experience this fear, and it really is causeless and meaningless. We just have to learn to overcome it. This fear is responsible for many people giving up on lucid dreaming altogether unfortunately.

Good luck in overcoming this but the thing that works best for me is thinking about the awesome things im about to experience and the world im about to enter.
then suddenly, everything is silent, the fear is gone, and everything around me has shifted into another world. The lucid has commenced.

Yeh ive gone into Lucids/OBE before and it was always after over coming this "fear" feeling.

actually entered a WILD Lucid dream sometime ago, but it happened so quick and was so vivid I got scared and pulled out, I saw some women in medevil times running away from something :/ sux

Getting back into it now, Ill try thinking about how good its going to be once I enter the Lucid, maybe that will help

My sleeping pattern is fine. I get 8 hours of sleep every time I go to sleep. This particular thing has only happened twice but I have nightmares pretty often, maybe about every 3 days or so. I actually hadn't had any nightmares in years a while ago, then I started lucid dreaming and the nightmares started happening.

And I don't mind all the questions.

There is all sorts of material in different books and systems about dealing with nightmares and fear. As an example the tibetan Yogis suggest to imagine being surrounded by enlightened protective beings radiating love and compassion. There's also many things you can do to protect your space - I always used to visualise myself sealing the walls of my room with golden light so that nothing could get to me. I'd try and find some literature on this and find something that feels right and works for you to help you feel safe.
