"Falling" Asleep: First Sign of Hypnagogia?

I've still yet to have a lucid dream, and have been scouring DV and all of the Internet for any possible method that will work. I've been trying for a couple of months now, but have still had no luck. Recently, while browsing some topics, I remembered of a certain thing that happens to me on occasion while falling asleep. I'll be thinking of nothing, and almost completely unconscious, when I'll feel a bit weird. I start to get nervous, and get this "falling" sensation, and then almost "trip", and am wide awake again. This happens occasionally, and I can't figure out if it's the first stages of hypnagogia, or what. Could anybody help?

That falling sensation would occur during the hypnagogic, yeah. As the brain is falling into sleep it goes into theta wave, which is where hypnagogia occurs most lucidly; that is, if you get the hypnagogic hallucinations of images and sounds. Daytime parahypnagogia happens in low alpha when awake. Sleep is delta wave.

Yep, falling is a common sensation while entering into sleep. A little tip. Try to hold onto the sensation, focus on keeping yourself calm throughout. And try to observe the sensations of slipping into sleep as passively but intently as you can. You don't want to lose consciousness, but you want to continue to fall asleep. In a nutshell these are the basic steps into a WILD. After a while you might start to get some imagery and then come into a dream where you might be fully lucid. It's a hard thing to do, and an extremely hard thing to master. But totally worth the effort.
