Training in lucid dreaming.

As I am further wondering about the amazing things lucid dreaming can do I am wondering if training in a lucid dream can actually increase skill in awakening life.

For an instance;

If I play chess with a certain person in a lucid dream, can I increase my tactical insight and improve myself in chess?

If I fight against a kungfu warrior, can I become better in kung fu?

I know dreams are limited to your own creativity and how far you allow your mind to exert, but how far can we go?

My personal research continues!

I think I read somewhere (possibly Making up the Mind by Chris Frith) that an experiment was performed once where three groups of people performed a weight lifting task with their little finger. Then one group practised the task for something like a month, one group did nothing for a month, and one group just imagined performing the task for a month. All the groups were brought back at the end of the month and asked to perform the task again. The group that imagined doing the task actually performed a lot better than the control group who had done nothing.

So it's likely that the same is true for dreams. Maybe practising something over and over while you dream will actually make you slightly better at it. Or maybe just put you in the frame of mind to try harder at it or something.

I like to think of it like the load programs in The Matrix. Like when they are in the dojo, sure you might not know kung fu, therefore the instructor might not be doing actual kung fu, but the human imagination is amazing, im sure if you were to spar with him you would end up creating your own kung fu - and remembering it all when you woke up!

I had a regular dream once, i was in a dance battle, at one point i done a spin but swung my legs at the same time in an unusual way that looked super cool, I had never seen anyone do this move before, yet i could replicate it flawlessly when i woke up!

The only thing would be - in a dream, i could become some ultra fit kung fu master, but when i wake up im back in my not so fit body, whilst i know how to do kung fu or whatever, my real body might be not be able to keep up. But thats when training and practise in the real world pays off, when it coincides collides and amplifies with the dreaming world!

I was about to post a similar topic. One thing I want to use lucid dreaming for is to get better at skateboarding. I did it loads as a kid but gave me after I broke my wrist when I was about 14. It just put me off skating. I've always wanted to get my board out and start again but I never find the time these days.

I wanted to see if I could pick up the basics again in my dreams as I haven't much free time at the moment. I wanted to try use it to get over the fear of dropping in as that was one thing I could never do. Once I got on the top of the ramp I freaked out. I could ollie and kickflip fine but dropping in was a no no.

Hope it works out for you :) another great potential application of lucid dreaming.

I have heard of muscle memory and i'm wondering is this similar? is our body copying the movements we have learnt from memory/dream?
