I have had 4 lucid dreams now. I have tried to explain how amazing LDs are, but my wife thinks I’m nuts. Now I am talking about buying supplements, changing my sleep patterns, and spending my morning TV time writing in my dream journal. I just can’t seem to make her understand. Have any of you had this problem with your partner? Do they ever get it? How should I explain this to her, or should I just quit trying?
Sometimes I put it to them like this, imagine a world where only a few people knew how to dream, you wouldn't accept that absurd idea now would you.

I have the same problem with all my friends and most of my family. They haven't experienced a lucid dream and never took the time to see what it's all about, so they dismiss it, calling it "silly" or "pointless". It's far from pointless. Tell her that lucid dreaming is like meditation, because you're increasing awareness and logic in real life, so it will go through into your dreams. It's also fun.

It's not easy to convince people that lucid dreaming is real, but if you show her some facts about it and explain why you're so excited, she'll probably accept it for what it is.

Yeah, definitely check out what O_Z posted. As for personal experience, I've never had much of a problem with it. My best friend is a member of this website, that definitely helps a lot. As for my family, my mum thought I was screwing up how much rest I got (she thought making conscious decisions in dreams throughout the night would make me tired in the morning). My dad practiced spiritual martial arts, and his colleagues from 30 or so years ago have had Astral Projections into "Hell" while meditating. He first told me that it couldn't be possible, but once I argued that he could once see 'spirits' and the sort, why couldn't lucid dreaming be possible?
Now, he's perfectly at ease when I talk about lucid dreaming and accepts it. As for my girlfriend, she accepts it. It's kinda silly how we're brought up with "It's just a dream" as if dreams aren't significant at all.
Like many of you, I experienced my friends and family disregarding what I told them about Lucid Dreaming as nothing to get excited about. I knew they only acted this way because they've never had one, probably because they lack the imagination required to get excited about such a thing in the first place. But I know how to get to them though, it takes time. You gotta plant the seeds of curiosity first. Something will happen that will trigger their interest and when it does, they know who to turn to.
With my girl, it happened in a similar fashion. It began when I first told her about what Lucid Dreaming was and she said that whenever that happened to her she woke up immediately. She also says that she doesn't like Dreaming period because she feels she gets less restful sleep when she Dreams. In the beginning she didn't really ask too much about it, but then I started writing my book and getting really into Lucid Dreaming. I would watch and read everything I could about the subject. I began taking supplements to boost neural activity and have more Lucids, and naturally she became worried about that. She thought I would mess myself up, so I had to explain every thing about every one of the different supplements I wanted to try out.
Its reached the point now, a year after I began actively working on my book, that she tells me about Dreams she has and sometimes asks me about my own. She never did this before. The other day I even freaked her out a bit when we were discussing the Dreams we had the night before. She had a Dream about someone's face getting ripped off. I told her that was very interesting because the night before I had watched the newest Evil Dead movie. I watched it on our IPad so I know for a fact that she didn't see anything, plus she's a big scaredy cat when it comes to horror movies anyway. I told her about this one picture in the movie that shows this person holding their own face skin in their hands, completely removed from the skull. She just stared back at me for a moment in disbelief and then said how freaky it was that she Dreamed about that specific act. She doesn't usually have violent Dreams, she mainly Dreams about her work, poor girl.
Sorry about the long post, but I just wanted to show you that it is possible to change someone's view about Lucid Dreaming. I'm not saying you do, but don't force the subject onto her. She will come to understand what this means to you and will most likely begin to share an interest in it as well.
I tell people about it once and once only. If they dont get it first time then ill talk about something else. I think people can be very pragmatic when it comes to exploring their own body and mind wether it be through dreaming, meditation or drugs. I cant help but think its just the way society wants us to be. Anyway back to the point treborious, your not alone on this, my missus doesnt give a monkeys about LD'ing. Her loss my gain, shell never know what i get upto in the dream world! ;)
