What uses can we give to lucid dreams?
What uses can we give to lucid dreams?

I've seen threads that suggested therapies and ways to heal diseases lucid dreaming. That is something very useful which we all can take advantage of. So lets take fun away from this thread (as something to do in lucid dreams) and lets suggest things that we can do in our dreams or "therapies" to do while dreaming that can help us in the waking life, that will improve our lives.

I've thought of some, which of course need development:
- Have a psychologist or someone to give you answers. Some people may think that they don't need a psychologist and may think that it's stupid or we don't trust. However we can always give it a try in our dreams since nobody will ever know LOL. Remember that he is simply part of yourself, of your imagination, of your mind. He will know everything about you therefore he can give you some real answers to your problems. If you have seen many movies involving psychologists then you will have the character very well developed and that would be even better.
- Fight your fears.
- For art! In lucid dreams we can go to amazing landscapes and in the waking life we can express in on paints. This is not only for drawing/painting but it can also work for music and other art areas. Keith Richards(The Rolling Stones) said that he heard the song "Satisfaction" in a dream (not lucid) so he recorded it and then kept sleeping, then that song became a hit.
- Training: Combat. Any type of combat style. In your dreams you can train it freely. However the problem with training with guns is that they might not be very accurate. Another problem you may experience is that if you are training tactics then you will know where the enemy will be and predict his moves. You will be like in god mode. Personally I would love to train knife fight since in waking life it's dangerous but in our dreams you can't cheat and isn't dangerous at all but somehow you learn.
Suggestions of members:
- Study. You will find out that in your dreams it's excellent to study since you have contact with your subconscious. Therefore you have contact with all the information stored in you mind. Also in our dreams we don't get exhausted as we do in real life. It's simply excellent to study in our dreams.
- Morse code. Then you will be able to transcribe your thought by blinks.
- To increase confidence: Talking in a stadium full of people can be very helpful for giving a boost to your confidence.
- Therapeutical uses: Example: I knew a guy that stopped his "addiction" to marijuana in dreams.
- For architectural projects
- To check out new styles: Like how would you look like if you have long hair.
I will suggest more later and I will add yours to this post. We have to be very creative!!!

If you are a programmer, using a dream to work on that should be easy.
Surgeons should be able to practice their skills in dreams.
Anyway, you can pretty much practice anything job-related.

I am seriously into internal yoga. I have a real perception of kundalini energy when awake. I have found out that in a lucid dream, my energy body responds exactly the same as in real life, only many times more powerfully and it is much easier for me to precieve what is going on. To me the the dream world is an excellent place to work on any mystical task that is currently beyond me in waking life.

Tell me if I interpret this wrong: You are saying that every action in lucid dreams will make you have physical reactions in the waking life? For example: If you are about to be murdered in your dream then your body will have the same reactions as if it was going to be murdered in the waking life(Intense breathing, adrenaline, tachycardia, others)? This can not only happen with nightmares but you can also transfer good energy from dreams to real life and that's what you do, right? If it is like that well I never thought of it very seriously but it's a very good thing. Stress is one of the major causes of cancer and I believe this is a very good alternative medicine.

Lichi, sorry but that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about the kind of energy used in mystic traditions, like AiKiDo and ReiKi. It is a sensory presception developed from meditation or similar things. It is called Ki in Japan, Chi in China, or Prana in India. What I am saying is that while I can feel this energy while awake, I can feel it much more intensly in a lucid dream. I am able to learn more about the energy and how to use it by practicing these difficult energy yoga skill in a lucid dream. It is kind of like learning with training wheels to build up confidence.

I think he is just saying that his dream body acts like it does in real life. He won't be any more flexible or anything. At least that is what he is saying.

LD's can be a great source of inspiration (scene for a painting, idea for a story etc)
I've used them to find new ideas for games (I study computer game development) quite a few times.

I have used lucid dreaming in a therapeutic aspect. I used to have very bad anxiety and stress issues that I did not want to see a psychologist about. I turned to lucid dreaming for an answer and found that through my dreams I could find relief and answers about myself. I used techniques such as creating my ideal "calm/happy place" where I could confront any anxious feelings through my unconscious by directly asking it questions. Through this I find that in my waking life I have relieved my anxiety and stress a lot.

You can increase your confidence. Try having a lucid dream where you're talking to an enormous stadium full of people. Or practice a presentation that you have to give. I suppose this one might fall under 'facing your fears' for a lot of people, but for others it can just be a practice to boost confidence.

I know a guy that used dreams for this. He was mentally addicted to marijuana (you cannot get physically addicted) and somehow he stopped his addiction thanks to dreams. He went to a real life therapist and he suggested to use dreams... Honestly I don't know many details of that but I know that dreams work for this.

Oh thanks Kel, just recalled another use I give them. To check out fashion styles before buying anything or letting my hair grow longer, totally saves me a lot of time.
