I doubt it, they already have helmets that can do that (expensive as hell) like the nova dreamer
I think everything is possible. We just have to start with the main idea and then try until we get the result. After all that's what Edison did, right? The light bulb was already invented but Edison after trying hundreds of different materials improved it.
I think that a dream box like in the movie "Inception" would be an awesome thing. It would be a thing that would definitely change the world.
As lucid dreaming be one more mainstream, I am sure many things will be made for it. Technology keeps getting more advanced. In the next 100 years I think a product will come out that will allow you to get Lucids every single night. Maybe even some sort of shared dreaming device would be invented.
You never know!
Nanobots.
I think LDing is connected with reaching a higher consciousness, a different perspective, learning to be aware.. simply taking a pill or using a machine that flashes lights etc, when you're in REM in order to induce lucidity kind of takes away part of the meaning. I'd say the path to learing to lucid dream is just as important as having the dream itself.. :P same thing for shared dreaming.
Actually, I've heard the waking hallucinatory state, induced by LSD is similiar to lucid dreaming in some ways? (Kind of off-topic.)
Honestly, this is the only way I really see this working. Now, I don't know much about the structure of the brain or how our brain physically changes for us to LD, but I really think that this would make sense.
LDs ( along with just about everything else in the brain ) are cause by certain electric and/or chemical signals at a certain time. I don't think that a table would do all that good with the timing mechanic of it. Of course, nanobots are pretty far off, and seem sorta dangerous, so I'll just stick with "natural" LDs.
Also, if this does happen, would there be conflict between "natural" and "artificial" dreamers?
