I ALWAYS watch about 45-60mins of TV before going to sleep, do you think this could be effecting the chances of having a successful LD?
The only chance this will have in effecting weather or not you have an LD will be the subject matter of the dream. There will a good chance that if the TV is the last thing you are watching before you fall asleep, the material on the TV will somehow appear in your dreams. So you can mnemonically suggest to remember and recognize anything that you in your dreams from the TV show you were just watching. In some cases a dream will form entirely around the theme of whichever show you were watching.
So all in all it has just about as much a chance at inducing an LD as any other subject matter that you see before bed :)
In my opinion, I don't think it has that much of an effect on if you LD or not. One problem I could see is that if you watch it RIGHT before going to sleep, it may effect how long it takes to fall asleep, because of the light shining in your eyes as well as your brain being very active from being sucked into the plots of whatever you're watching. Also if you're intending to do MILDs before sleep, you may find your mind drifting back to what you were watching and end up forgetting about your mantras.
I like watching TV because it can sometimes give me ideas for things that I want to try in my dreams, but I try to avoid it an hour before sleep so that my mind can start winding down. I also try to avoid watching commercials because they are loud and distracting. I would suggest if you were to continue watching TV before sleep, if you notice that your dreams tend to be influenced by what you were watching, you may want to try being aware and doing RCs while you're watching TV.
I'd say it could. TV has a remarkable ability to "shut your mind off," and this is exactly the kind of condition you don't want your mind to be in before sleep, as it makes it hard to set your intentions and basically prepare to LD. In other words, it could be a major distraction. I suggest that, if you must watch TV before bed, you make sure to turn it off a good hour or so before sleep, so you can have so quiet time to settle your mind and prepare to LD.
Thank you all :)
Just wish more research could be done into Lding, so we could get a definate list of what increases your chances and what decreases your chances, would be much easier then.
Even if there was more research done I don't think there could be a 'definite list' of what increases/decreases your chances of Lucid Dreaming. The more experience I have with lucid dreaming, the more I realize everything works differently depending on the person. One person might have amazing vivid dreams after drinking orange juice before bed and another...not so much. You just to to experiment and find the different things that work for you. Good luck!
