Personalities and Lucid Dreamind

I have recently thought that noting personality types could indeed lead to knowing how easily you could achieve a lucid state. In my recent blog post I mentioned a small portion of my theory.

"I have noticed something that nobody touches on when it comes too lucid dreaming. Personality types and the way they achieve lucidity. Here are some of the personality types I have classified (I may be missing some or a lot, this is just some that I have come up with.)

The Accepting: this personality type is what I would classify myself as. I am very accepting of what happens around and to me, in result it makes achieving lucidity somewhat hard because in a dream I am on Autopilot, simply accepting what is happening around me.

The Skeptic: This personality type will probably find it easy to achieve a lucid state being that in their waking life they question everything, questing odd situations in dreams is most likely going to make skeptics aware pretty quick. (Assuming they remember their dreams.)

The Aware: These groups of people are just aware of their surroundings and what’s happening to/around them. When they are in a dream they don’t really question it, but they do know that they are sleeping and I’ve found that some even modify some things here and there.

The Emotional: I feel like this personality type is on the fence. If you are a fearful person than you will find that you need to break down walls to even become lucid. When the emotional become lucid they get over excited causing them to wake up, BUT they also can get more excited and motivated about lucid dreaming making it easy to stay dedicated."

Is there anything you could think or say about this theory?

If you're going to take the scientific approach, best to use personality types currently accepted in science and research. The Myers-Briggs personality types are probably the best to use. To do an effective experiment, use the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) to determine what personality types others are and then cross reference those types with success in Lucid Dreaming, Dream Recall and Dream Control.

You would also have to do the experiment outside of Dreamviews. We had a forum post a while back trying to determine the personality type of the community as a whole, and I remember there being a particular bias towards a particular personality type. So you likely wouldn't get accurate results testing your theory on Dreamviews alone.

While this is true I'm taking the strongest aspects of a persons personality such as me being accepting and just scratching the surface. To determine the outcome of ones entire personality on a subconscious level would be nearly impossible because one big factor is perception, one trait that is different for every human. Then again there are several informal ways to go about this research. Such as astrology and birth signs yet even so it would be nearly impossible.

As for determining the psychological standpoint of the entire dream views community is just madness for people who attempt lucid dreaming spawn from different backgrounds and personality traits. There might be some common ground but not by much

You've kind of hit my point. A dream is the product of the subconscious mind, and a person's personality is vastly more complex than "Accepting" or "Skeptical." There are far more factors to consider. A dream encompasses a person just as much as their waking life does. It, like your awake self, is a product of your personality, character, memories and experiences. Its lunacy to attempt to simplify a person's dreams, personality and their connection to each other, to such a degree.

As for your second post, the post that determined the dreamviews community personality type did just that. It wasn't attempting to explain the types of people who lucid dream, but the types of people who visit here. For example, you'll notice this community has a secular and liberal bias. Both of which are factors in one (and other) personality types, but not necessarily factors in all lucid dreamers. Therefore, to get more accurate results, you'll need to venture outside the community and use a more complex system.

Even if you used your system, you'll likely find that most dreamers here fall under your "Skeptic" category. But that's not necessarily the case for all dreamers. You'll also find that those who do fall under that category, have various other aspects that assist in their abilities and will require re-evaluation.

Using an accepted system and eliminating bias by venturing outside the community is the only way to accurately test your theory. It's the scientific method.

It's not a terrible idea, it just needs proper implementation.
