Still no luck, and no sleep makes matters worse

So earlier I was going to bed and I dozed off slightly, I could tell I was on the edge of dreaming and being awake, I was seeing different dream images as if I were dreaming, but all I could do was wake myself up rather than turn it into a lucid dream..

I've tried many different things, but my problem is I'm not good at being consistent, I have ADD and forget to do things frequently. And lately it seems like trying to learn lucid dreaming has caused me to not be able to sleep. Just like tonight, I went to sleep, then I woke up a couple of hours later and I couldn't fall asleep, I even tried taking a Melatonin to help me fall asleep but it was a no-go. I have birthday plans for today, my 20th birthday, if I fall asleep now I won't be able to do them, if I don't get any sleep I will be really tired all day. I'm at a loss here guys, I'm about ready to give up and just move on to other things..

If right now isnt convenient for you take a small break.
I recommend for you to try to stop making it such a big deal and relax a little. The most effective thing I think you should do is tape a sign on your room door saying somthing like "remember to record" or "dream journal" and just keep a dream jurnal for every night and then your recall will improve alot and it will be alot easier.
I wanted to lucid dream for 2 years, I was always looking for new techniques and things to do but when I gave up I kept on recording a DJ and a few nights ago I was dreaming and saw skeletons dancing and thought to myself "this doesn't seem right" and I realized I was lucid!

i'm taking a break from lucid dreaming until school is over but it seems like you're pretty close. wanting it is important so that you can train your brain, but wanting it too much leaves you anxious before you sleep. that can cause you tok wake up too much. you're going to have to somehow find the middle ground on that

I've been thinking all day about why I was up all night, some people say if you try too hard it can cause you to stay awake, as. I have read a post on here, where someone was trying so often that they couldn't achieve it, but when they didn't try, their mind knew they were ready. I also read another post where someone was talking about sleep deprivation and REM Bounceback. Going a long period of time without getting your REM sleep causes it to stack up, so to speak. So last night I was telling myself, that my mind knows I want it, and it knows how to achieve lucidity. It must have remembered the recent post of sleep deprivation, therefore keeping me awake so that when I sleep tonight I'll have longer periods of REM sleep. And in theory, when I try to sleep tonight, I might have a better chance at achieving lucidity, so in a way my mind is trying to help me to become Lucid.

I hope that made sense because I'm as tired as can be right now.. Lol

i personally think the most important thing to do is to do reality checks throughout the day. every reality check is a poke to your brain telling it that you want a lucid dream. it's a subtler way of leaving a lucid dream impression onto your mind. better than hoping and hoping right before you fall asleep every night imo. just do reality checks every 30 minutes to an hour and sleep normally.

I have ADD too but Concerta helps. Some nights I'm up for 2 hours and it sucks dick but it happens, I've been working on LDing for 3 weeks or so and I haven't had one but I will soon. Just gotta keep the right mindset, believe you will and you will. Same for being doubtful, but once you get 1, from what I've heard the rest come a lot easier.

n00b, I've been taking medicine since I was a kid, I had ADHD when I was young, which seems to have turned into ADD, I've become better at control. Same with my Tourettes, what most people don't know is that it's like an intense itch that you just Have to scratch, usually by facial tics or whatever else the Tourettes may include.
So if you have the itch to act out Tourettes, you just don't scratch it. Not bragging or anything by any means, but I've become quite good at controlling emotions and mindsets over time, and I'm sure it can help with my lucid dreaming. But good luck to you man, hope you achieve Lucidity swiftly and put it on here for us to read.

No need to give up. Especially, since you have motivation. That's half the battle. Would you like to describe what exactly you do for practice? Do you go for DILDs or WILD? :)

I go for WILDs, I believe I have a better chance about it that way, since I've had many years to practice control with my mind and it's thoughts and controlling my emotions. I especially go for WILDs when I take afternoon naps, so it's the more commonly practiced induction technique for me. :)

You know, if you have problem sleeping at night for whatever reason, then WBTB, WILDs and trying the REM rebound may not be the best technique for you. You should probably work on getting consistent sleep pattern, that may help you sleep better. Once you work that out, you can go back to WILDing. Now, I'm not saying to ditch WILD. I know it's an exciting technique.

You can practice WILD and MILD/DILD at a same time. The MILD/DILD will give you a chance to get a lucid when you go to sleep normally. No need to get up at night for WBTB. But if you do WBTB and it fails, you have a second chance that night to get a lucid because of MILD. Happy dreams:)
