MILD Questions

1. Find a position that works for you and that you can easily and comfortably fall asleep.

2. Relax (Refer to the Relaxation section above this) 3. Repeat to yourself as you fall asleep: "I will wake up after every dream period and I will remember my dream" Believe that you will wake up after each dream you have. (The first time I’ve tried this it has worked moderately well; another way you could do this is set your alarm, but practice makes perfect)

So I just tell myself this till I fall asleep?? My mind ALWAYS wonders just b4 I fall asleep... I think thats how I get to sleep. Im gonna have my alarm clock set to wake me up. When should I set it? how many hours into sleep?

4. When you wake up write down your dream immediately. Even if you can barely remember anything, write down how the dream made you feel, or how you felt when you woke up.

OK so I wake up, and roll over to my journal and write down what was going on, and how I felt about it..

5. Lie down and drift back to sleep. Imagine that you are back in the dream that you just had. This time, however, imagine that you saw a dreamsign in your dream and recognized it. As you fall asleep keep visualizing yourself in your dream, recognizing your dreamsign, and realizing that you are in a dream. (Note: try not to let your mind wonder on this step as well as step 3)

Here is where I have the problem.. If I visualize that I saw the dream sign it takes less than 10 seconds.... then what do I do while im laying there waiting for something to happen? Repeat the visualizing of the dream sign like 50 times till I finally doze off? I like start to make up a story in my head but nothing happens.. then b4 I know it im back asleep. Sometimes I immediatly wake up and im like "DAMNIT NO DOZING OFF, Gotta concentrate" but then seconds later im dozing off again.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 every time that you awaken during the night.

I have done this a few times and I have these exact same problems... what am I supposed to be doing when Im trying to fall back asleep? I cant visualize the same thing happening over + over in my head.. my mind always jumps to something new. [/b]

Your bed is fine, it's just referring to some frequently posed questions about whether sleeping on your back, side or stomach affects it. Whatever is comfortable is fine.

The challenge of a MILD is in stopping your mind from wandering too much. If you wander a little, it's okay. I know the problem, I've got a hint of attention-deficit disorder.

Yep, just write about the dream in general. Everything you remember, sights, sounds, smells, feelings.

Visualize the dream repeatedly, trying each time to remember more of the dream. Eventually you can usually recall all of the dream, and this will help to get your mind set for the next step.



Just try to keep focused, and remember, if it doesn't work, maybe MILD isn't for you. It isn't the only way to acheive LD's, and people who have a hard time focusing find it especially difficult. Try for a few more days, or even a few weeks, and if it doesn't pay off, it may not be the technique you should use. MILD is generally easier to master than WILD, so two weeks of trying should give you a general idea of your future success. If you have a few almost-LDs, keep with it, if not, move on. If you choose to try WILD, give it at least a month before giving up on it, it's much more difficult, but more rewarding in general.
