I myself go through the same thing armyhelmetman. If you do a search on the forum you could read a certain post i made about dreaming in third person. But to make it easier on you i suppose i could explain here. To answer your question, yes it is normal to dream in third person, other than that I always found it difficult to be lucid while in third person. It's not a great dream sign either, for me that is.... Everyone is different... But back to the point... If you think third person is an obstacle to your road to lucid dreams, i sugguest this, if your thinking in third person during your daily life, try practicing imagining yourself in first person. I have practiced this for some time now and i'm visualizing most of my dreams in first now... I thought this was a big help to set me back on the road to lucidity... But hey? Everyone has there own methods, if they don't work don't give up! :D
im not sure if these will help. read your dream diary pick a dream you like go over it in your head like when you had it only try and see things from first person. instead of seeing your self going up stairs go up stairs your self. im also going to try the " I will rember my dreams" only change it to "i will dream in first person" just though i'd post these if it might help some one eles
I used to only dream in third person, until a year or two ago I could only remember 1 dream I had had in first person, and I usually remember several dreams a night. Either last summer or the summer before, I forget when, I did a sensory deprevation experiment, which is where you lay in a tub with body tempurature water, with your ears underwater and in darkness, so you can't feel, see, hear, taste or smell anything. The point is to clear your mind of all external input, which does a lot of things which I can't explain very well. After a while I entered an almost dream like state, where I was watching events almost like a movie. The most interesting part of the experiment though was that after that for a long time all my dreams where in first person, and more vivid. This was good in a way, but usually I could easily tell when I was dreaming if noticed that I noticed that I was watching myself, so I had to relearn how to become lucid. After a while I noticed that some of my dreams were in third person again, and gradually I was having fewer and fewer first person dreams. I haven't tried the sensory deprevation since then, but I get somewhat the same affect from taking B6 (first person, more vivid), the difference being that B6 only lasts a night or maybe two, where I noticed the affects of the sensory deprevation for weeks. Hope that was informative
In few previous theads on 3rd Person dreaming we were bouncing around the idea that some people are so traumatized with embarrassment by Naked in Public Dreams that they take refuge in 3rd Person disembodied dreams. They are too shy to be in their own dreams for fear that they may be caught naked.
Does this ring true for anybody here?
i can't say i really know of being afraid of being naked in dreams becasue i am not afraid of it in real life but this has just reminded me of 1 dream i can rember in first person i was around 8 give or take a year and i was walking up stairs to go to the bathroom i pee and get alittle on my jeans and go to take them off and change because my mom is having a make up party with her friends and some lady with short hair comes and trys to take my jeans off saying that i could not change well i fought with her to keep them on then i woke up and could not rember another dream complety in first person although there are some that parts are in first person.
but i just tried the sensory depervation but i dont think it really worked does any one have more infomation of it.
I think that it depends, everybody can "watching" his/hers dream another way. I generaly watch dreams in first person, but in LDs sometimes I see erverything from 3rd person...
in regular dreams, i usually switch between watching a scene being in 3rd person without seeing my body, and then first person when lol i still dont see my body but i know its there and i can use it. sometimes i will be walking someone in first person, then i will suddenly be watching a scene, then i will end up first person in the scene i was just watching. i prefer first person, but if you got in to a ld fight then third person would be quite usefull! :D
Just to throw in my $.02...
My dreams are always in first person. I can only remember one occasion (rather recently) where a dream switched to a third person view, and that was very brief -- I was driving a car, and then was suddenly watching as the car drove up a big ramp and then plunged off of it (I couldn't actually see myself, but I assume I was still driving).
I think that logik is on to something, with the idea that the way you picture things in your mind is likely to be the way you dream them. If I imagine a scenario in my mind that involves me, I always picture it from my own point of view. I think it's likely that's why my dreams are always first person.
If you want to change your dream perspective, then change the way you think about things when you're awake -- it's worth a try.
Almost all of the dreams that I have that are non-lucid are third person. It's really weird because I'm usually watching myself do things and have no control over what happens to me (which can be quite scary sometimes.)
So don't worry armyhelmetman, you're not alone!
I dream in all sorts of different views, sometimes it's third person, sometimes 1st, sometimes 2nd, sometimes I am someone else, sometimes I'm in a videogame with the same graphics and so on. Really I could go on forever about my different views. ;D
So those of us who dream in 3rd person have minds who go through life in 3rd person? ;)Quote:

I've had a few dreams in 1st and 3rd person. Some of the 3rd person dreams seemed more like stories, too. And I got punched in the jaw while in 1st person. O.o
I personally have never had a dream in third person. They're always in first person. But saying that, I would love to see myself from someone's perspective (or eyes, for that matter), or in a third person manner.

Just an idea... you could try practising that consciously-- see yourself in the room from a different point of view-- so that when your subconscious wants it, it just uses your practise as a foundation.Quote:

That would be me... I don't really like to even come out of the shower half naked... I take it more of a personal thing (everyone should, shouldnt have a bunch of naked people) proabably on a deeper level... I remember a few times in my dreams i was embaressed because i was naked... But no one cared... But anyway what the heck does it mean leo? I'm insecure with my nakedness :? ?Quote:

I would say you are irrationally insecure about something noone else notices about you. It's not nudity, it's something else. Maybe something physically.Quote:
