Not much knowledge about binaural beats. But they can temporarily change your brain waves from waking state to different ones. Like the wavelength when you are sleeping or meditating. :)
Basically our brain works with signals. Looking at these signals we can see they have quite low frequencies, From around 1hz to around 40hz I think. Binaural beats are when a slight difference in frequency is heard in both ears. This difference creates a throbbing noise in our brain, for some reason the brain thinks it hears this low frequencies. Naturally our cannot pick up such low frequencies but now we thinnk we can becuase we are creating them ourselves.
The brain works on a number of levels eg delta, alpha, theta each of these is associated with a certain state of mind and frequency. For instance when we lucid dream our brain fluctuates between alpha, delta and theta signals. By playing a difference in sounds which matches these frequencies we can stimulate the brain to think it doing or needing a particular action or part of the brain.
Therefore Binaural beats can be used to help enter a great number of states including meditation, lucid dreaming, deep reflection, self hypnosis, astral projection (if you believe in it) and more.
In the case of lucid dreaming they are either used with DILD's or WILD's. For DILDing the sound only has to be playing which should naturally induce a LD easier and make them more vivid. During WILDing they are often played when you try enter sleep paralyses as it will be easier to keep you conscious mind awake. They have been scientifically proven to be effective so its definetaly worth the shot.
Hope this helps.

Binaural beats help me relax and reach a trance state. I have never had much luck trying to use them for lucid dreaming. I can't fall asleep with headphones, let alone with music playing in my ears. I think it is good practice to spend time in trance, so I use them for meditation. The practice helps me become comfortable through all the altered states of mind when I WILD.
Yes and no. I can still functions and do normal things while listening to them but they do change your brains frequency. I guess it would depends on your definition of hypnosis.
