Last night, on the verge of waking I remained in a "twilight zone" between my dream and awakening. In the background of my dream there was a gershwin style symphony playing. I knew I was not fully awake because the symphony sounded to real, to be just playback from the brain.
Now I love to make impromptu symphonies in my head. For example after listening to a lot of classical music, I can make an ongoing classical symphony in my head, hearing an entirely classical symphony in my head, by using themes and structure that I have gotten a feel for after listening to classical music for a long while.
However, the downside is, it is still not as real as having the symphony playback in headphones. My internal concentration just can't put me into a state where the sounds feel external.
But, in this dream I had the perfect symphony, and I began to hear the music I was making in my head. The sound would play externally. The symphony was real. So I began to create a gershwin style symphony in my head. The entire symphony was there. The beat was sharp and jazzy. I tried to conciously create the melody and beat, and when I would stutter for a note the symphony would stutter.
So then I just decided to listen to my subconcious create the music. It's almost as if in that certain state, my subconciousness could just write music. Original music, that I was listening to first hand.
.................................................. ..........................
I have entered into this state multiple times before, last time I was writing classical. But the reason why I think it happened this time, was that at night
I was listening to a Gershwin's Concerto F. While listening to it, I tried to imagine myself at the symhony, where I saw it live before. I tried to imagine each section or instrument, playing their parts, the piano in the center, with the piano player and his facial expressions, and the conductor's motions. I fell asleep listening to the Gershwin CD...
When I woke up I was writing it!
I grabbed my CD player off the floor, and tried to write the symphony again. It didn't work as well but I made some fun.
