when should i expect to "break through"

So I'm at 16 lucid dreams now. I haven't done one thing in those dreams that I couldn't do irl. All of them are low lucidity experiences. Reecejones87 put it best. In my lucid dreams, I realize I'm dreaming but I don't really understand what that means. In that dream I don't realize that this is all in my head and I'm laying down at home sleeping. I don't realize that I can do anything without real life consiquences. I just really want to break through to the higher levels of lucidity where I actually feel like I'm there and I'm FULLY aware. Any tips on what I could do to help are appreciated.

I know exactly what you were talking about, my first lucids were just like that. Now I have a lucid with good awareness once in a while but I'm still waiting for a real breakthrough.

One thing I'm experimenting around with to improve those dreams is to note down a few good and bad things for each lucid I had, then try to remember what to improve. Once you manage to get from knowing to understanding you will likely just suddenly snap out of it when the realization hits you, especially the first time it's a great feeling. Depending on how good your recall is you might also consider trying to improve that a litlle. From the point where you are it shouldn't take too long anymore, maybe just a few weeks up to 2 months. But if you keep at it you might have your first lucid with understanding even the next days, just stay optimistic about it.

All i know is to not eat 4 hours before sleeping, and empty bladder before sleeping for a clear lucid dream :) goodluck

Just pick a particular thing you want to do in your next lucid. One single goal (I'd recommend flying, but that's up to you), and put everything else about your dreaming on the back burner. Each night, remind yourself of your desire to attempt this activity, focus on the intent to remember to do it in your next lucid.
