What was your first Lucid dream?

This thread is a place for people to tell about the very first Lucid Dream they had. (Or the first you remember.) I was just curious to hear about everyone's first experience in a LD. I guess I'll go ahead and tell mine.

It didn't start out as an LD, and I was wondering through a forest of Bamboo. I came upon a small pond with the bamboo slightly cleared around it, and as I started towards it, a tiger poked it's head out of the bamboo. I felt kind of scared then, but as it leaned it's head in closer to mine, the fear slowly dissipated, until I was looking at the Tiger as I would an old friend. Then, it spoke, and I can't exactly recall what it said, but it was one word, and for the sake of the story, I'll say that it said "Waken". Anyway, after it said the word, I gained Lucidity right there. All of a sudden, the colors became sharper, everything was more focused and bright, and that wave of happiness and excitement that you get when you become lucid (especially for the first time) washed over me, and it woke me up.

My first lucid should've freaked me out more than it did. It truly felt as if my brain was trying to fix itself. Different parts of my brain were being stimulated in what I guessed was an overall enhancement of my neural connections. I highly doubt that it was something that went wrong. After it was finished, I could feel the blood drain down the left side of my head (maybe there's a vein there?) Then visuals started; I saw my parents drag me out of my room, unconscious or maybe worse. I then saw a figure, kind of blurred, straight ahead trying to help me turn my head to the right side which was giving me difficulty for some reason. I figured it was Mom, but she shook her head. I realized it was actually this girl I liked, so I get excited then wake up.

I had about three precursor very odd and scary dreams before this, but none were lucid. It was only when I had this dream when my lucids started coming in droves, daily. I don't have a realization moment that I'm dreaming like most members describe. I either start off knowing it or I just have myself a non-lucid.

That's really freaky :shock: I'm glad that wasn't my first! Are you a natural Lucid Dreamer? I'm inclined to think so because of your LD count :-?

My first LD I remember was before I knew what lucid dreaming was. I was at someone's house with my brother. My mom was out of town so we had to stay the night. We shared a bunkbed.

I don't know how I becaame lucid, but I did and people were throwing dog beds at me over and over, and I tried to wake up, but I couldn't. I was yelling in my dream, "Adam! Wake me up!"
But I guess he didn't hear. :/

I assume by natural you mean that I have lucid dreams without using a technique? They did start coming naturally since November 2009, a year after I was diagnosed with bipolar. I was on Seroquel at the time and have switched to Abilify since with no effect on the dreams. If it could be said that I use a method then it would be that the dreams I have are so consistent and vivid that it's hard for me not to notice that I'm dreaming. Can consistency and vividness be considered dream signs?

If by natural you mean I have total control, then it varies. Sometimes it's like me walking a dog while other times it's like a cowboy riding a bull, holding on for dear life.

Yes, I was wondering if you have your LD's without using a method, and it's crazy that you can have these consistently without using a technique. :o consistency and vividness are definitely dream signs, but I'd still cunt that as natural since you don't really try for a lucid dream; it just happens for you. And about the control, that's not what I was asks, but it makes me curious as to how often you have total control, being a natural lucid dreamer.

As for the dog bed dream, that made me laugh :lol: nice

As for the full sandbox effect, I rarely get that. There are only parts of the dream I can change. It's as if my brain goes about creating this vast, fun environment to explore subconsciously while I only get a limited number of tools and changes I can make. I have gotten more control as the years have gone by. My DJ entries give a good idea of the amount of control I can exert.

I actually think I know exactly what you mean, that's exactly how it is for me most of the time, except I don't naturally have them quite that often.

Anyone else? Come on, I wanna read about more than just two people's :3

I dont remember it all that good, but i think i was about the age five or six, i remember being scared from a nightmare at that age and my mom used to told me to shake my head to wake up.

That statement is burned tight in my brain, i had a nightmare a couple of days/weeks later shook my head which made the monster go away but did not wake me up. I suddenly realised i was dreaming.

Did not know what to do with it much so i just wandered around amazed.


I wonder why she told me that, maybe she was a lucid dreamer as well, maybe its something that can be passed on genetically..

i just decided to try lucid dreaming around 4am. (i saw a post on facebook) but i got comfortable, scratched whatever was itchy at the time & settled in. i don't think i actually got to the dream part but what i experienced was amazing. i was just thinking about anything that came to mind. i suddenly got a weird sensation, like i was laying sidways. i got a cold sweat on my legs & arms so i opened my eyes (thinking i had fallen asleep & kicked the blanket off). i tried to look at the clock & i shit you not, i couldn’t move my head. i kinda panicked but remembered that that’s what is supposed to happen!! it was so cool. i couldn’t move ANYTHING. my feet had that tingly ‘just got the circulation flowing’ feeling. absolutely amazing. but i tried again because i squirmed abit when i opened my eyes. i got comfortable again around 4.45. i got the spins again almost immediately. this time it was almost as if i was in a tornado. i calmed myself down & the spins slowed. i liked how it felt though & as soon as i thought it, it started. suddenly it felt like i hit something. it was so abrupt it woke me up. i think i did something wrong. i really want to get to the dreaming part

I had my first LD last night.

In my dream I was trying to find my car but couldn't remember where I had left it. I asked myself how I got to where I was and my mind was literally a blank and I realised I was dreaming. I got so excited I ran over to a brick wall and touched it. It was very clear and real. I got really excited then everything went blurry and my dream continued, I wasn't aware, or had forgotten, that I was dreaming. Boo. :roll:

I was 7 or 8. Thanks to my lovely old brother, it was a recurrent nightmare about nightfall and the hour of the vampire: I was always standing on an old bridge in front of a forest, and I remember watching the last beams of sunlight while remembering it was the time when the vampire used to come out from its place. After many failed attempts trying to find a safe place (cannot remember how many dreams I spent just running in slow motion for cover), I reached a point where I realized it was this nightmare again. Then, I just wanted to wake up. The following dreams I spent my time unsuccessfully trying to wake up. The funny part for me was that I even wanted to try what I saw in an episode of Scooby Doo, where Shaggy asks Scooby to poke him with a needle, because of Shaggy did believe they were dreaming something about a monster or so. In my dreams I never found the god damn nail, so I pinched my arms, closed my eyes, thought about waking up, spun around or whatever came to my mind that moment in order to make something different but nothing happened. The last time I dreamed about that, I decided to become the vampire and fight fire with fire...

I had my first lucid dream last night and it was incredible. I was in a military camp of some sort for Asian people and we were in the bathrooms showering and screwing around. After I had finished showering, an officer took me aside and told me a new recruit was coming and I was suppose to watch over him when he arrived. The problem was, the new recruit was a friend of mine from school and he was not Asian. A feeling of awareness was apparent and I was skeptical of everything. Suddenly, I had control over myself in the dream and I stopped the officer right in the middle of his incoherent blabbering and I said, "Wait, wait, wait, I'm dreaming officer!". After saying that, the officer smiled at me and I woke up. The feeling of realizing it was a lucid dream was amazing, hopefully next time I won't wake up right when i realize it is a lucid dream.

I had my first lucid dream (that I can remember) when I was 12 and really into Naruto.
I'd go to sleep every night thinking how the story would go on, and one night I dreamed that Naruto and Sasuke were strolling in the woods and I thought: "holy crap I'm dreaming about Naruto! He and Hinata should totally have sex!"
But wen they started making out behind a tree, i got too emotional and woke up xD

I love how when I started this, two people replied, then I say "anyone else?" and I get six replies before I even have a chance to check back on the thread :D I think my favorite so far is Box77's, but the one about Naruto was pretty funny :cheeky:

@takeitupanotch: From what you said, it sounds like you were going through Sleep Paralysis. It's not surprising that you didn't accomplish it the first time, but do some reading on it, and watch slash112's videos on some different techniques if you want to try it again ^.^ good luck!

My first lucid was spontaneous. I was not trying anything. I virtually felt that my body was levitating and went outside of my room through a window. I realized at that moment that I was dreaming. The next two or three minustes I was flying over the ocean ( deep blue). I also saw big mountains. I tested my ablility to pass my hands throug a solid rock. Every thing was very nitid.

My first LD was weird, didn't last very long and left me feeling a bit shaken as I had no previous knowledge of Lucid Dreams existence.

I had fallen asleep on the couch with the TV on, I got up and noticed it was off, the light was on but it was a lot clearer than normal and different, heavier, if that makes sense. I turned round and saw myself lying asleep on the couch. I stopped and tried to figure out what was happening. I saw the hall light was on, I wanted to switch it off for some reason and instead of walking there I was through in the hall. I tried to imagine someone coming up the stairs into my living room but it didn't happen, I tried to conjure a few things but it didn't work and then I woke up. Kind of boring.

Later that night I fell asleep again and was on board a space ship on a planed that's surface was covered in a red rock, like the grand canyon. The planet was inhabited with these dark blue skinned creatures that were humanoid in shape (this was a few years before Avatar came out by the way :D). I became lucid and for what seemed like 10 mins at a time, I could explore the ship and planet with this other being there who I percieved to be female. I didn't try and have sex with her, she was dark blue and that's not really my thing :shadewink:.

Anyway that was split into 10 min sections the rest of the night, I kept waking up and falling asleep again back into the same dream. I created a whole story in my head at the time, I had to save the planet from someone before returning back to earth. I wish I had kept a dream journal then.

My first LD was really unexpected, like I didn't even want a lucid dream because I was terrified of them at the time. In the dream I was sitting on my futon reading a math textbook and I realized that the words didn't make any sense so I did a finger through the hand reality check. It worked so I became lucid and I immediately got up and walked around, trying to summon someone. I thought something like, "What if something bad happens and like a monster tries to eat me or something?" I was then engulfed by darkness and woke up but it wasn't scary at all, it was a really great feeling. So after that, I recorded all of my dreams and actually tried for them~!

I don't remember much about my first lucid dream. I recall more of the ones since then, where I learned how to change my surroundings by using my sub conscious instead of trying to overpower it. The feeling of having your surroundings change just by thinking of where you want to go is amazing, and that is why I remember those better. Other awesome things have taken place since then as well, but I feel now would be inappropriate to discuss them...

I was walking through a clothing store with my girlfriend in the dream. I don't remember what triggered my lucidity. All at once the racks and people all dropped into the floor leaving me staring out the windows that formed the front of the store. I watched in complete awe as the sky changed from day to night and back again. I then wanted to bring someone into my Dream, but who? As I thought about it a mannequin like object appeared on the floor in the front of the store lying face up. Only there was no face because I hadn't decided whose it was to be yet. I got closer to it and leaned in for a better look. As I tried to picture who I wanted it to be, my subconscious stepped in. It became a person i didnt want it to. Opened their eyes ever so suddenly and lunged at me, waking me up.

As I remember it, my first LD was right after a few hours of reading a ton of DV...true story.

Repeating to myself as I fell asleep: I will just notice, and reality check, then remember, and write it down.

So then a bunch of nonsensical stuff starts going on--like dog shows, and riding bikes on the pike, etc--and the turning point was when I stepped out of "a friends house" and onto the front lawn of my high school...

...wait a minute this doesn't fit...

...I'm dreaming.
...I can fucking fly!

My first LD was actually last night :D
The technique I used was DILD.

Before I became lucid i was standing alone in a room with only counters in it, so I thought it was a kitchen. As I looked around, though, I realized that there were no appliances (no stove, refrigerater, microwave... anything) and it confused me. Instantly I thought well maybe I'm dreaming. So, I did a RC, and it worked, but I think it didn't occur to me that it worked only because I was expecting it not to. So I tried again, only this time paying as much attention to it as i could, and I realized it worked. Of course I was excited, as this was the first one I'd had, so I woke up, but it turned out to be morning anyway so either way I would have had to get up...

The feeling I get from knowing that I've finally had my first LD is absolutely amazing. (I've been practising ADA for around 2 1/2 days, and hoping to find information about LDing that would help... but considering I've only been trying since the 24th... I think I did pretty good :D ) I absolutely can't wait for my next LD!!

i was at school and my life was completely ruined for sum reason then i jus though this i probably jus a dream then it all hit me that it was just a dream. I ran outside and jumped and i went like 50 feet and came down soo after i woke up. My heart was beating very quickly

Pretty much all I did was jump out of my bedroom window and fly around :P

In my first lucid dream i did the obvious and immediately tried to spawn my former crush >.>. I ended up trying so hard that i woke my self up :(

I'll tell u two firsts 1 I didn't know what lucid dreaming was so I don't count this in overall count but basically I wondered down some hallway with a knife stabbing this family in each of their individual rooms but the first lucid dream I TRIED to have I just ran up to some guy like I'm dreaming! And then woke up from excitement

Well, I've realized I'm dreaming throughout my rare nighmares a few times, but the dream just ended there. The first lucid dream that lasted more than a milli second was about me trying to get my family to go somewhere, but they were too loud for me to think. The dream didn't listen to me :/

That is freaking hilarious.

My first was a nightmare. Someone told me to wake myself up when I was in a nightmare (I think I was about 7) after one of the most vivid and scary nightmares I have ever had. The next time I was in a nightmare I realized I was in a dream. i was stuck in this house with this eerie green glow. It took me about a minute to wake myself up. The whole time I was scared to death of something in the house. This happened with about four or five dreams, and now I don't ever have nightmares, no matter how hard I try. :(

I got my first lucid dreams after I had watched the Matrix. I thought really weird thoughts like "What if this world isn't real and what about Morpheus questions, can we really know when we are fully awake?" some sayd after wandering around being critical to the existence itself, I had a dream where I were in a fishing boat and my dad got a really big fish, then I started to think that weird stuff again "What if I was dreaming now? Haha lol what am I thinking, I am fishing with my dad it's obvious that I am awa.... wait a minue. I have never been fishing in my entire life. Where am I? Oh my god this can't be real I must be drea...." And I woke up of excitement xD

I did however incubated lots of dreams when I was a kid (Choose to dream what I wanted to dream). I remember incubating a dream about Harry Potter and I stood next to Ron and Hermione in the dream and well I realized it was a dream but didn't really cared so much I just let myself continue dreaming, so instead of getting excited I was more like "Oh my dream is more vivid now, that's neat..." and then I just continued dreaming normally. The incubation stopped working as I got older.

I didn't start lucid but I was a light on the ceiling of a blank white room and my dog was in there wearing a sombrero. She was walking around and I randomly became lucid. I didn't feel excited or happy because I knew it wouldn't last. Since I was a lit there wasn't much I could do so I made my dog stand up on two legs and talk in a British accent. I felt a need to make sure I wasn't going to be late for school so I woke up and checked the time, I still had 2 and a half hours I could have been lucid. :( that was my only lucid I have had in my life so far.

My first lucid that was really vivid and not a nightmare was when I was about 14. I saw the girl that I liked sitting a ways away from me and I started walking to where she was sitting. This kid next to me said "where are you going?" I replied "I am going to go talk to her, this is a dream anyways, so it won't matter." He stared at me, then laughed "Yeah, sure this is a dream." he said sarcastically. I was really confused and didn't know about RCs back then, so I stood there staring around me until I woke up.

I used to incubate dreams as well, back when I was much better at visualizing. I am almost as good as I used to be at visualizing, so I might start trying to do that again.

I am 30 years old, a white male, and I live in Fairbanks, Alaska.

I only recently started the practices involved in lucid dreaming maybe 2 weeks ago as a result of a random search which turned out to inspire a great passion for the pursuit. I pulled my live-in girlfriend along for the ride and she started the practices as well only a couple of days later.

Aside from increasing recall rates and a noticeable increase in our prospective memories during our waking life, we had been unable to achieve lucidity in any dreams, but that was okay because we knew that it could take time.

Dream recall became very potent for me specifically as I began to remember as many as 3 very vivid dreams upon waking most mornings. It was rewarding enough in itself as I have always loved my dreams because they, almost without fail, play out like dramatic epics that seem fully formed with a beginning, middle, and end. I used to write them down a LOT as a teenager. I have a livejournal spanning several years that is probably 1/3 dream journal.

Anyway, I found myself lucid in a dream quite by accident, actually. I had just awoken from a particularly strange dream wherein my dog, Psycho (a little black and white papillon), talked to me whilst standing on the kitchen counter which is a place that he knows he aught never to be, but he is a little wild at times.

Anyway, not to get into that dream too much, when I awoke from that dream, I decided to try the WBTB/WBTS (Wake-Back-To-Bed/Wake-Back-To-Sleep) method, got up for a good Winter pee outside in subzero temperatures, got a drink of water, and then I stayed up for a few more minutes to think about my last dream and the SEVERAL dream signs that were present in the dream, determined to incubate the dream and return to it, this time to realize that I was dreaming.

Once I felt satisfied that I had done enough, I decided to go back to bed and focus on re-entering into the previous dream.

After a period of maybe half an hour or more, I knew that I was not going to make it back to sleep so, remembering the studies of dream telepathy I had been reading about in days prior, I decided to try to psychicly project the notion that my girlfriend was dreaming TO my girlfriend whom I found sleeping next to me, somewhat fitfully.

I began to focus on the mantra, "You are dreaming, Lynn. Know that you are dreaming."

I repeated this until...well, I do not remember stopping because my consciousness slipped right into a dream where I was still lying next to my woman only now my friend, Stephen, was lying on the other side of her, facing the flat-screen T.V. that is at the foot of our bed, watching some cartoon that I cannot recall now, but it was supposed to be funny.

We talked, but I could not remember what about once I awoke. He did say something funny about the cartoon which we both laughed about.

It was all rather odd because my girlfriend and I were completely naked as that's how we spend most of our time when we are home and we almost ALWAYS sleep naked unless it is just one of those -40 degrees Farenheight nights in which case Lynn will usually wear some light clothing to bed. So it felt normal to be there and to be naked, but not with someone else in the room and Stephen was fully clothed.

I remember thinking this was a bit odd, but I let it pass because Stephen and I had always been pretty shamelessly open with one another in the past and this sort of felt like it fit.

Anyway, after the joke about the cartoon, he suddenly grabbed my face, pulled my head close to his face so that my left cheek was close to his lips. That's when he began to kiss my cheek and say, "If only [My Name] were here!"

I didn't say it, but I was thinking, "Stop being weird and what are you talking about? I'm right here!"

Lynn was asleep between us for this entire interaction.

After he let my face go, I felt the urge to get out of bed, get dressed, and get things set up for Lynn and I to start our respective days so that she could just get out of bed and have an easy morning of it. I like to do things like that, at random, because I like her to know that I still care.

Upon getting out of bed, I realized that I was still naked and that I should get dressed or Stephen would be embarassed by my nakedness.

I reached for some clothes hanging over the back of our black recliner next to my side of the bed, paused in mid-reach, and decided that it didn't matter and opted to remain naked as I went about my morning efforts.

I remember noting that none of this illicited any kind of response from Stephen, who was still on the bed, watching T.V., and I looked back at him just to be sure he wasn't freaking out.

Instead of seeing Stephen's shocked face which I had been expecting, I find him rather casually sitting up, facing the T.V. and eating a plate of food which I had cooked the night before (Jasmine rice, green lentils, and black turtle beans all mixed with a bit of ketchup, egg, and hotsauce). It had been intended to fill a burrito, but he had spread it out like a proper meal and added some bread on the side with some tea.

It didn't bother me as I consider myself to be a good host and I take pleasure from insuring that my guests have all of the comforts that I can offer/they can accept so I was merely pleased that he was enjoying a meal that I provided. It did sort of bother me that he hadn't asked, the dish seeming to have just appeared there.

He motioned to the slanted ceiling above him at the construction paper that we had cut out in big block letters using negative space on black paper so that the white of the ceiling would show through in contrast even when it wasn't very light in the room. We had made them to say, "What Was I Just Dreaming" in fancifully curved and varied ways so as to stimulate the artistic side of our brains while also stimulating the logical side. Anyway, that was the intention and I quickly explained it to him because he loves art and is an artist himself. He thought it was pretty cool how we had used blue for the "What" and deep purple for "Dreaming" in order to make those words stand out to the eye when all other words were on pitch black backgrounds.

I feel something tugging at my mind. I feel strangely about our interaction, but I can't place why.

I shrug it off and walk to the stairs at the far wall and, preparing to walk down them, I had a sudden urge to jump down halfway while holding the railing with my right hand. I have NO idea why I decided to do this.

So I jumped and, to my surprise, I began to float. I floated well past my intended landing place, continued past the final step before the middle landing, and then, as I was about to touch down on the middle landing, my body slowly spun around while, simultaneously, my arms and legs began to move into the position I knew that I had fallen asleep in. At that point, I had set down on the middle landing, on my back, and I could not move even a finger. Something was dawning on me as I thought about the thought of how I knew this was the position I had gone to sleep in.

I thought, how could I be aware of that when I was awake?

The floor felt cold and the darkened bottom floor beyond the middle landing was dark and forboding, but I felt courageous in the face of the twinge of fear that I felt when staring out at it. I continued to think about what had just happened and I realized that my friend, Stephen, was more than a thousand miles away and could, therefore, not be sitting in my bed, eating my food. Furthermore, I realized that the only time I had ever successfully floated was in my dreams where I had done it countless times that I could remember.

With a sudden and inexplicable surge of anxiety, it dawned on me. I was actually dreaming and lying in my bed in the exact position that I found myself in right then and there.

Now a strange thing happened to me because what I found was that, upon becoming aware, this world felt WAY too real to be a dream. How could I be dreaming when I felt my body, felt the all too familiar winter chill of a barren dry cabin ground floor, and I could neither see nor feel a single thing that should distinguish a dream from the waking world? My consciousness actually doubted the validity of my statement that this was just a dream, but I knew it had to be because I knew that I had just floated and I knew that Stephen lived in Juneau and not in Fairbanks. I HAD to be dreaming.

Once I became clear on this, the anxiety melted away and was replaced with the most intense excitement that I have ever experienced. I was lucid in my dream! I had done it!

"Okay, baby steps.", I thought.

You might think of baby steps and assume that I would merely lay there and grow accustomed to the realness of things, but, apparently, what I meant by "baby steps" was that I should try to unfreeze my paralyzed body and attempt to get up.

I felt my limbs loosen and a heaviness lifted off of me.

I stood up and found myself, awake, lying in my bed next to Lynn.

What none of the literature or CD's or even other peoples' stories prepared me for was just how REAL it would seem. Oh people had said as much, but nothing quite conveys just how that actually plays out to your conciousness. I found the idea that I was actually dreaming so unlikely given the sensations of the world that I almost lost the lucidty due to it. I had even chided myself for making such a rediculous assertion in the face of overwhelming facts to the contrary.

More to the point, when I awoke from the dream, I actually did several reality checks because of how real the dream had been and I no longer felt any true certainty that I could be sure that I was ever truly awake. The dream had showed me how silly I have been in all of my assumptions about daily life and what I believed to be the "real world". How could I be so sure? Nothing and I mean NOTHING about that dream world failed to feel as real as anything else that I have ever experienced. The only things that exposed it for a dream was my complete recollection of my waking life circumstances and my understanding of the waking life "laws" of physics.

I will never feel the same way about being awake again. Not ever.

All I can think about is that I want more. More!

My first LD was a couple years ago when I didn't know what lucid dreaming was. I had cone home from spending the day at water park. I had a lot of fun and was really tired. That night when I went to sleep i was dreaming about riding on something called a flow rider at the waterpark and i didn't realize I was dreaming but I could control my dream and it was very vivid and the scene didn't change for like 5 minutes. I woke up and was really excited then I closed my eyes again and imagined the dream scene again and went right back into it for a few more minutes. It was awesome. Just learned what an LD was like a year ago but didn't really try til a few months ago and now I want to have one again so bad.

I used to have very small lucid periods in dreams before I knew what lucid dreaming was. There are only few that I can recall vividly. In one, I was standing in a past home's driveway and I just knew somehow that I could fly if I really concentrated. There was someone standing with me, and I asked them to interact with me in order for my body to liftoff I guess. I would launch but couldn't keep myself in the air. After a few failed attemps I would wake up very confused. Like I said, I had NO IDEA what I was doing at the time. Another experience was a kind of reoccurring dream(also before I was aware of LD) and it was like I was waking up, then I would go to my bedroom window, I would open it and that was the only part where I really gained awareness, and the dream would go normally where this dragon would appear and take me to the place where I grew up as a young child.

Pretty strange to think about now that I'm researching this. I have become really interested in lucid dreaming recently and I plan to start a dream journal, and try to start inducing LD's. :content:
