do dreams feel longer or shorter than the amount of time youve been asleep or the same?
Dreams usually seem like the same as reality, but when you wake up and forget parts of your dreams they seem to have gone by in seconds or minutes.
One thing that can happen is called time-dialation. The idea is that you feel as if you walked all the way down your block for instance but it actually was a seriously shortened version of your block. This lets 45 seconds of dream seem like it took 3 or 4 minutes, and so on. The dream my start at dawn and flash through scenes like riding a scool bus, sitting through a class and going to lunch, with lots of interaction. Your brain thinks that from dawn to lunch is 4 hours, but the actual dream may have only lasted 20 minutes. You wake feeling as if the dream was 4 hours long, but it was not.
With out time=dialation thee dreams seem to match real time.
are there any tricks to make a dream make it feel like it lasts longer. like slowing down time or messing around with clocks
The only thing I can think of is using a story line. that is where you convince yourself, perhaps by saying something out loud, that certain things are going on. You may make comments like "We've been at this all day! I hope we find him by morning,,, (walk a short ways, then say),,, well the sun is about to come up, lets head back" If you get good at this "story line" type of control, you can create time dialation on purpose.
