I've been having lucids like crazy these past weeks, but they were very short ones.
I've been having a lot of DILDs but it seems that I have them at the end of my REM cycles. I'll become lucid and not too long after I'll wake up for the day.
My question is, would a WBTB be necessary or should I really just focus on my awareness more to become lucid in my early stages of REM?

Don't bother with the REM it's true that you might need the REM to dream vivid, but I am almost convinced that that's not the case in order to maintain the dream.
The most likely explanation to why you woke up was either because of excitement or just that your not used to dreaming awareness I promise you that after you have had these lucidity moments for some time, you will find a way to stay focused on the dream. So my answer is "just focus on your awareness" :)
I know my own solution to this problem, it might not work for you but you can try. Whenever I feel that my dream is fading or that I am afraid that I will wake up I just look at my hands and it somehow solves the problem.

You can also some dream stabilization techniques to regain focus of the dream. Here are some common ones!
1. Touch: Touch everything around you the minute you become lucid Touch the floor, the walls, buildings, grass, act. This will help "anchor" yourself in a dream.
2. Spinning: Once a dream starts to look blurry or less vivid, spin around rapidly with your arms out for a good 10-20 seconds. You might end up in a completely different place, but the dream will re-stabilize.
3. Look down at your hands and yell "Clarity Now!" when you look up, things should look more vivid and stable.
4. Diving: When a dream is beginning to end, or whenever, dive into the ground. You will probably reach complete blackness, but than a completely new dream will open up. This is similar to DEILD in the sense that you can chain dreams.
5. Rubbing Hands: If you become lucid in a blurry dream, or the dream is ending, rub your hands vigorously and the dreamscape will re-stabilize.
Note that not all methods work for everyone, so find the method that works best for you :) Hope this helps!
That's what it has been like for my lucid dreams but i haven't had as many as you. I would work on awareness but WBTB would really help.
Hmm the way I understand it, you're saying that you get lucid right before you wake up? Perhaps that's because at the end of your REM cycle, you start to gain consciousness (hence you wake up a bit, probably roll over without noticing, then go back to sleep). Since you are slowly gaining consciousness and wakefulness, it could trigger you to get lucid, like your brain wakes up just before your body ends the cycle. Then you get lucid for a bit, then the cycle finally ends. That's just a theory though. x)
I agree, you should probably work on awareness more, so you get lucid earlier on in the dream. If that doesn't work, you can try DEILDing, which seems to be a perfect alternative for when you wake up from a lucid, you maintain your awareness before slipping back into the dream.
Yes this is exactly what's happening lol almost except for the lucidity trigger. Whenever I'm flying in my dreams that's what normally makes me lucid. Coincidentally, it happens when I'm about to wake up fml.Quote:

I get this a lot, too. It is frustrating. The good news is, it is good practice to recognize dreams. I think you are right to try a WBTB. You also might be able to just set an alarm for 30 minutes before you wake up. Wake up, switch it off, and go right back to sleep. Try both :)
stephen Laberge actually mentioned this state in a documentary on lucid dreaming on the descovery channel. he said it's like a limbo state when the body starts to wake up, you gain consciousness near the time your dream starts to fade. it can go up to 10 to 15 seconds before it does though. theres know logic trigger when this happends, it just does.Quote:
