I don't tell anyone about lucid dreaming, they already think I'm crazy enough.
It's one of my favorite things to do so I enjoy keeping it my personal secret.

I've shared the whole idea of lucid dreaming with a few of my friends in the past. Usually they seem like they are generally interested with it, but they seem to be swayed from the subject after learning of all the work that is typically needed for one to achieve lucidity. It is almost saddening that more people do not get hooked into the subject really, people constantly wish for some type of virtual reality gaming console to be released but little do they know that they have had one their entire lives. I truly hope that the whole subject of lucid dreaming will reach out to more people in due time. People don't know what they are missing out on.
i told my sister id read about it when i first started out and she said i was weird so yeah. if my sister thought i was weird my parents would think i was retarded soo... yeah i dont talk about it anywhere but on this site. and i hide my dream journal from them too XD idk im weird
people just don't seem to be that interested in exploring there dreams, i agree with Rothgar, "If they could experience what I experienced for even ONE second...."
i think it would catch there interest a bit more.
I've told most of my friends and nearly all of them have said they don't care, or just don't believe in it, I've told them it's been proven but most aren't open minded to this kind of stuff. I managed to get my brother and sister into lucid dreaming, but they lost interest pretty quickly and gave up trying to have one. My Dad tried for a while and even had a few lucid dreams, but my Mum isn't as open minded.
About a month ago, I told my girlfriend about it and tried to get her to attempt some techniques, she didn't seem to care and just shrugged it off. A week later she comes running to me to teach her techniques, because she had a lucid dream purely by accident and wanted to get more and more because it was so exciting.
When I first found out about lucid dreaming I tried telling others about it, but nobody beloved me :( . I was rather disappointed by how close minded people can be, but still its their loss not mine so...
I usually get people who say, "Oh, like in Inception, right?" and I always get upset when that happens.
If anyone (a few ones) got interested in the subject, it was just for a little time. It looks like it depends more on my own interest than theirs.
Some people I tell just brush it off like it's not a big deal or anything. Some people are really interested in it and of course want to try it
When i tell them about WILDing they are like "Woah thats freaky" then of course they mention insidious and i have to tell them they are wrong and what not, but yeah. Depends who i tell mainly
Well, I told my brother about lucid dreaming and he seems interested. To be honest he had cooler lucid dream than I ever had. I am little jelly :(
I asked some friends on skype;
[6:57:57 PM] Spectral_Blank | Dave : Lol u fucking weirdo
[6:59:33 PM] ዏ speccyrevz ,=,e ዏ: the only people that youd tell are your friends, and theyd either say 'No way thats crazy or scary, Im scared to sleep, or not interested'
[6:19:59 PM] .Tom: Is that even possible o.O
[7:54:39 PM] Fin Phillips.: I'm a Lucid Dreamer aswell so yah.. I love it :p
[7:07:39 PM] ryan // theo: thats amazing :D
Oh, I miss read what you said :(
My girlfriend thinks its weird and always tells me not to do it haha. When I first learned about lucid dreaming I asked my mom if she ever heard of it and she said she's had OBE's before and we talked about it for a bit, that was pretty cool :p As for my friends they mostly just go "thats so coool holy shit" a couple of them said theyre gonna start dream journals and stuff but they didnt haha. Other then that, I dont tell people about it because I dont want to have to explain it to them and deal with theyre reaction haha
Same as you bro. Most people just think it's weird or don't seem interested enough to try it. I'm not that guy to push something on someone though, I've never really suggested someone into doing it, or even attempted to, but I have mentioned it in passing. My parents think it's weird, and don't really understand it. Fuck it. A lot of people are close-minded. People don't attempt to see the benefit in things that don't automatically make sense to them, it's sad. People always have negative shit to say to ideas they've never heard of, it's honestly ridiculous. Whatever though, I just do me I'm not concerned if other people like it, I like it and it benefits me so fuck what anyone else has to say.
Society sucks.
I feel like such a hipster right now.
"Oh right"
I hate people.
Bumping this interesting thread.
Once I told a friend of mine that when I was younger and trying to sleep, the traffic noise became Givin' Up of The Darkness (hypnagogic hallucination) with the instruments and all. She asked me if I smoked weed and told that there's nothing wrong about doing drugs. I live in a small town here and this is uncommon (doing drugs). I've been only in a few LD's now that I'm interested.
I don't even think I'll join the conversation if someone brings up dreaming. 1. There's who could find this interesting but things would die after that conversation. This happens with easier although very interesting topics. Now that somebody knows about it, your *secret* is less valuable. 2. Someone would think that I'm cracked. I'm already a bit weird, but not cracked. 3. Nobody gives a crap.
Very different reactions tbh.
- "sounds fishy to me" from a VERY scientific software developer friend
- "so cool, tell me everything" - even DJing after that, sincere interest and some dream experience sharing. My bro is the best.
- "heard about it, you can learn stuff in your dreams" - both friends have tried it, but made huge errors like trying it at bedtime. Both didn't want to get specific yet and I'm not going to nudge or force them ;)
- "oy yeah LD so cool, I'd love to learn it myself, but don't want to put the time and energy into it" - buddy at work.
- "i know it exists, done it myself in my youth, but I like my dreams just the way the are and don't want to meddle with them by choice" - the best wife on earth.
I'd not tell this to random ppl, it is just too easy to misunderstand. People tend to have a very borked view about dreaming in general. I select carefully...
