      False awakening?

I had a extremely vivid dream and I said "I am dreaming" but I couldnt control the dream. Would this be called a false awakening? If not, what would it be called?

That's what some people consider a low level lucidity, a lucid dream without any control. As long as you consciously knew and acknowledged the fact that you were dreaming it was a lucid dream. The only thing that would make it a false awakening would be if you wake up but find yourself in another dream. FAs don't have to be lucid but they're a good way to become lucid by preforming RCs whenever you wake up. This is just a lucid dream without control.

Definitely not an FA. My first FA freaked me out a bit. I was in an intense dream, then suddenly woke up in my bed with the sun shining. Everything was normal and my wife was right next to me. I laid there for a bit, talking to my wife about the crazy dream I'd just had... then BOOM... I actually woke up. This time, my wife was still asleep, so it took me a minute to figure out whether or not I was still in a dream. Very interesting to say the least =)

A dream is a dream. You had no control because you had no control.

I agree with Burke. Lucidity is not equal to control. so yes, you were lucid, but you just had no control. But don't worry, with enough practice, you can improve it. False awakenings are where you think you woke up, but it is actually just a dream.

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

Nope ... a false awakening is when you "wake up" in a dream but you are still asleep. I have them all the time and they're a pain. It's like, I'll dream that I've woken up in my bed and everything will look exactly like it does in real life––but then something weird will happen and I know I'm still stuck in the dream. Like others have said, I guess what you're having is a very low level of lucidity, where you acknowledge you are dreaming but you can't actually control anything. That's the only kind of lucidity I've achieved so far, too. Good luck to both of us!
