I know the basics, or so I remember them. I need a help on where I should start back. I never had any luck with LD but it's one those things I'm trying to check off my to do list. So any advice for a old newbie?

My advice to you would be to be interested in the non-lucid dreams as well, instead of having the goal of becoming LUCID have the goal of becoming more generally AWARE becaue that will do more for you in the long run. Of course lucidity is the goal but if you don't pay attention to the level of awareness in your non-lucid dreams how are you ever supposed to become lucid of them?
In my Dream Journal you can see that I have quite a lot of lucid dreams but that is nothing special about that at all. Because lucidity is to vague word to describe my full awareness of the dream.
Last night I had a lucid dream where I wasn't very aware at all, but I was still aware of that it was a dream so it's still called lucid, but it doesn't mean that it's high awareness.
The night before that I had the most aware, vivid and long lasting lucid dream in my entire life but with the lucid term I can't describe much of my awareness at all.
Which is why I use Reece Jones meassurement with the help of "Layers".
If you analyze your non-lucid dreams with the help of this, you can easier see what you need to work on.
So the goal is general awareness not lucidity. That's just an important mindset :)
Welcome back to LDing.
First thing I would say, that if you just trying to check it off you "to do" list, it will not work. You have to have passion for this, excitement, not treat it as an item on your shopping list.
OK, so I would recommend you re-read the tutorials for your chosen method, and then for other methods. You never know, when the situation comes when you can use that knowledge. Let's say you going for DILD, but when you wake up from a dream at night you realize you could try DEILD.

Has your recall worsened since taking a break? I would start with that. MasterMind gave some good advice. Enjoy the non lucids as well.
