No, you must continue doing reality checks and whatever you are doing. Once you get more and more Lucids, you can do these things less and they will come easier to you but you shouldn't really ever stop practicing. :)
I wish.... You must continually train my friend. Until you reach the point where every one of your Dreams is a Lucid. At least, that's how I see it. If you don't have Lucids 100% of the time then there is a part of you that cannot tell the difference between waking and Dreaming. You have not become fully Lucid. Knowing what a Lucid is and how one feels are the first steps. Steps many other people in this world have yet to take.
Yep, think of lucid dreaming as a lifestyle, and not just an activity. ;)
If you stop it all together, depending on the level of experience you reached you'll still maintain recall and occasional lucids for some time, after that it will all more or less "fall asleep". The good news is if you got something consistent going on it will be easier (time-wise) to get back on the road once you feel like doing so. :)
