They can dream, it's just as you get older, you get less REM sleep if I remember right. You mostly dream when your in the REM stage of dreaming.

It's not that they loose the ability to lucid dream. Is just that their have lower chances since they spend less time dreaming. A example of a very skilled lucid dreamer that helped LaBerge in his research is Beverley Kedzierski D'Urso. As you can see, she's not anywhere young :P
I'm not sure how accurate these pictures are, but i assume it isn't to far off.. I would say that a good WILD would be your best hope, if your at a quite old age. But old people can still have lucid dreams, definitely if you already have been practicing this since a younger age..

if as a youth i'm an advanced LDer, then, as a physicaly weak old man can i have my LDs and play football to my satisfaction?

No need to make multiple posts to thank people.
Older people need less sleep, and often suffer insomnia. Quality sleep eludes many people as they age.
Hence fewer dreams.
Ah Ekyu's graphic got me happy I'm entering the only rise up point for REM sleep after babyhood, good to know. :shadewink:
I also agree with Melanieb. Old people gets few dreams.
