Problem: boring dreams
when i read/hear about other ppls dreams it seems like so much interresting stuff happens. everybody seems to get these unreal, unpredictable, funny and whatever dreams. all my dreams are always so boring. nothing unnatrual happens, i only meet ppl i know irl, everything is like it could happen. this is a problem cause i havent found a good dreamsign. extraordinary things rarely happen in my dreams. and wuts the cause? do i have bad imagination or what? is there any way to get more interresting dreams? now im only talking about non-lucid dreams. the few lucid ones i have had have been a little more interresting. plz help me out!

Some minds are just not as creative or imaginative as others, and that could be your case. Fortunately, though, that is not unchangeable. If you spend more time doing things that spark your creativity, or even sometimes take a few minutes out of your day to close your eyes and imagine wild things happening, you'll start to wake the dormant animal of creativity and imagination within you.

Don't worry, you're certainly not alone!
Lots of people, including me, have the problem of boring dreams, and it's not necessarily anything to do with your imagination. There are some things you could try. Firstly, you could look into dream incubation, which is where you do things during the day to help you dream about a certain subject.
Another thing you could try is changing your daily routine. A more varied and interesting life might lead to more varied and interesting dreams.
If you're looking into improving your imagination, you could try this exercise called image streaming:

I haven't tried it, but it's supposed to improve the imagination, and do a lot more on top.
And...last but not least, there's this tutorial in the tutorials section:

It's meant for increasing dream realism, but a more vivd and realistic dream could be a more interesting dream, so parts of it are definitely worth a try.

Don't forget you need good recall. You could be having a ton of fun dreams but forgetting them all. I notcied the amount of "fun" dreams increase greatly after you start remebering more than 3 dreams a night. Any less than that your just forgetting to much. So I say you should work on your recall. I really doubt you have great recalling, and I bet thats the reason.
I know I used to hace crazy dreams all the time. Now I really don't have them that often. And thats because I got lazy with my dream journal and my recall isn't as great as before.

just last night i had a dream in which there was an overcast sky, and then it had some sort of lightning storm.... except the thunder and the "lightning" happened at the same time... there was no lightning, but there were little black clouds that would explode into a huge black cloud... pretty sweet but i dont usually have creative dreams either

Those are all good suggestions too. I think overall, though, to improve the variety and whimsicality of your dreams, just do simple things that may help get your mind going. When you don't exercise your mind's creative and imaginative potential during the day, you can hardly expect it to perform at night. You may very well be doing creative things, so i could be wrong, but it is just an idea.

i have one tip. Daydream, during the day. find a quiet space in your life, sit down, and let your mind wander. Set it free to go wherever it wants to go...i practice this daily, and i find it helps with my dreams, although just lately my recall is pants, but that's because i need a little break...

Hey im exactly the same dude, sometimes wen i wake up n go to write down my dream i just feel like." stuff it it was too boring, not worth writin down"
like i have dreams about going to school n stuff like that its sooooo borin, i just try n get involved in doing/reading/watchin more weird stuff around the place n it sparks my dreams up a bit...in a way its good though, cos ur waiting for a good dream to come along n when they do u fell more appreciative...well thats just me n e way...

I am telling you its your recall. Everyone has dreams which are totally random and crazy. If you don't its because your forgetting them.

Perhaps this happenes beacse you have a mundane scedualed day each day. Your brain might not be gettign enough new stimuls to express and fit inot yoru dreams. Try mixing up your day and doing somethign unexspected! Try creating art or music, take a walk, do somethign fresh and let your mind wader too! If your day is boring your dreams will be to.

Actually, yeah. I mentioned changing your daily routine earlier, and when Barbizzle mentioned it, I remembered something:
Usually, I have pretty boring dreams, but when I went on holiday last year I noticed that they got much more interesting and memorable. I really think that a repetitive daily routine contributes to boring dreams. Be more spontaneous: change the tiem you get up and go to bed; go for walks and visit places that you've never been before; spend time on creative pursuits like painting, drawing, or writing. Just do whatever seems like fun.
I kind of agree with Alric too - it might just be that you don't remember your interesting dreams, but it seems a little unlikely that you would remember all the boring dreams, but not the more memorable and exicitng ones.
-
Well if you only remeber parts of the dreams then all will seem boring.

thx for all the good answers :) all of them are good, but i think the main problem is my dream recall. often its not very good 0-2 dreams a night (many times i dont really know how many dreams ive had, its more a mix of happenings and place, i dont remember in which order they are, so clearly its a problem). the things i remember, i think, are also from a late sleeping period, right before i wake up. i dont think thats the best dreaming period, right?
changing my schedule, do unexpected things and such is probably also a good way. just as Raylin mentioned i also get better dreams when im on holiday. i think its all the new information your brain gets when you are at a completely new place, meet new ppl and such that does it.
so what im gonna do is to really try to improve my recall. im gonna try to change my schedule a bit(which could be fun not jhust for the dreaming part). i am also gonna daydream a bit every day to get my imagination up (which also can be useful in everyday life :) )
thx guys!
