About to Try Lucid Dreaming for 1st Time, any Tips

Hello everyone, I am with a friend and we are both going to attempt to lucid dream tonight. We have both taken a spoonful of peanut butter and 3 mg of melatonin each to increase our chances at becoming lucid. Any advice or recommendations anybody could give us? Everything is appreciated.

The first thing I'll say is that, lucid dreaming is a skill first and foremost; it isn't something that can be tried like a video game or pot or something. It takes a little time just to build up the requisite dream recall. From when I first signed up on DV, it was about 3 weeks until I had my first lucid dream. Lucid dreaming is something you practice at, and as you have them more and more frequently, you practice and improve dream control...

...and over time you learn to do some really cool shit. If you have proper respect for the level of effort it takes to get good at lucid dreaming, you'll be building a skill that will provide you with some amazing and memorable experiences. There are all kinds of things you can do with lucid dreams - have a look at Dr. Stephen LaBerge's Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming if you;re interested.

So, point is: either or both of you could just get a lucky break tonight - but if you don't, don't get discouraged, if you keep trying I promise you'll be having LD's sooner or later - probably sooner.

So with that, I wish you good luck.

As Supernova said, Don't give up! Persistence is important, you have to drill your intentions to LD into your subconscious mind.

Well thanks for the input. I wasn't exactly expecting to pull this off perfectly, but I do hope to make progress. Thanks.

Without a doubt persistence is key, try to focus on lucid dreaming throughout the day and as you go to sleep, it'll surely help you.

Your best bet would be to do the wake back to bed. Set your alarm for a couple hours before you would normally wake up, say around 4am. Get up and do something like go to the bathroom or get a drink. Then read about lucid dreaming (maybe this forum) for about 15 minutes. The go back to bed and tell yourself you will have a lucid dream, and fall asleep.

Even if you don't become lucid tonight, stay positive, have fun, and don't get frustrated. There is so much to enjoy in dreams.
