Complete Faith: It shall work!

I was watching several videos about having confidence in yourself about Lucid Dreaming, and not the methods. When the guy mentioned that, I was like, "YEAH, BABY!" I used to practice MILD and WILD and never got anywhere, but you know what? Screw that. My mind is extremely awesome and with little to no dream recall since I practiced MILD I will get a turret and slay the mighty Lucid beast. I got confidence baby, I will Lucid dream no matter what, my mind can do it, it needs no WILD to assist him!

I will post my results of awesomeness tomorrow morning. Leaving this thread to discuss this "method" of mine.

Exactly! Your mind is capable of doing wonderful things, Lucid dreaming is no exception!

As long as something works for you there is no point in questioning something, except perhaps asking yourself why it works (if you are interested).

But his point was to trust your experiences and not other peoples words. Although if the peoples words turn out to be true for YOU well then it is still that experience you should trust.

If it says in a guide that you get lucid by drinking a glass of water before gonig to bed and you succeed one day, but get unsuccessful one day don't tell yourself that the METHOD no longer works for you, ask yourself what was different and what you did differently in YOUR last successful experience, perhaps you went to bed earlier.

I used to give credit to the method when it worked, but blame myself when it didn't and that is very contraproductive.

And in my years of practise I have realized that what makes ANY method effective is your mindset. That's the point of the video. :)

Thanks Mastermind! I had a short, vivid dream, but no Lucid Dreams yet. It seems I lost confidence as I drifted to sleep! That will no longer will be the case tonight!

Having confidence in your abilities and being confident about yourself will definitely help achieve a lucid dream. One of the reasons I haven't had a lucid dream yet is most likely cause I don't aim high, which doesn't help my confidence, so tonight I am gonna be confident and have my first lucid dream!

The quote Mastermind made in his signature pretty much sets a standard that all induction techniques deviate from. I also had a successful DEILD last night because I was extremely confident that my mind will provide me the awareness to wake up from an alarm, and enter the dream state after having a dream.

I think if you set the right parameters for MILD (setting exact intentions for your subconscious, and reasonable intentions like, "At Xx amount of time, I will realize that I'm dreaming" or "At Xx time AM/PM today/tomorrow, I will realize that I'm dreaming" instead of forcing it with "I will have a lucid dream at so and so time" (which burdens your mind to make one when you could be having an non-lucid at that time) can help a lot in getting more lucids.

Remember that in order to set an intention for your subconscious, the most effective way is to do it subconsciously. (obviously) ;)

It is effective atleast according to the easy definition of dreams (subconscious, memories and emotions.) Because if you can intend a specfic thing subconsciously it is basically already in your dream.

How does one do that? Simple you begin by doing an action that you give a symbolic meaning or perform an action that already has a purpose built in, and then you make it a habit and the night you perform it just out of habit without thinking of the meaning you gave it consciously, that night will be the night you do it passively.

An easy example for understanding how you givie an action a meaning is the following: You put a ring on your finger each time you sleep and tell yourself that you will see it in your dream and that it will make you lucid, then when it have been a habit of yours and you might for example practise a different method like the WILD, but you still wear the ring out of habit. Well since your not focusing on the meaning of the ring consciously by then but your subconscious mind still have the meaning it is very likely that you that night will dream of seeing that ring.

An easy example for understanding how you use an action that already has a meaning indirectly can be:

When you WILD a focus one can have is to stay aware for as long as possible and your intent is to be aware of the attempt for as long as possible.
If you fall asleep unaware your active intention was to stay aware of the attempt, although since being aware was the last thing you thought about you indirectly set the intention to be aware overall so when you "fail" the WILD and fall asleep unconsciously and start dreaming you'll intent will be set to be aware.

This was a bad example, because it sounds like one is setting the intention consciously, although if the last thing you think about while falling asleep is "I am aware of when I am dreaming" it is very easy to wake up the next morning not remembering a thing and then get discouraged and thereby being too focused on the outcome. When your intent is to be aware of a WILD but fail to stay aware but still passively have the intention of being aware of the next dream, it's different. If one can intend without getting discouraged and not being outcome focused that will work just as good though.

These are just a few examples based on my experience. I was once super focused on reality checks and reality check alot! I used it together with Stephen LaBerge's MILD targets and I reality checked when saw a target or when I had nothing to do. But then I saw no use of reality checking because they rarely happend in my dreams, so one day I just completley forgot about reality checks and fell asleep, that night I did reality checks in the dreams of my second REM period!

Now I know that it was because my intention was set, but now in my subconscious.

The paradox though is that when you know about this and try to make it a method or something, it's very hard to not think about the outcome... :)

So the best approach is to choose a method one like and then perform it as a habit and not focus on outcome instead focus on each and every positive thing you get out of each attempt. And forget about lucidity as the goal to make it subconsciously set. Another good idea is to focus on Dream recall, Visualization, meditation or anything that indirectly benefits your lucid dreaming progress. ;)

Wow, that's fascinating, MasterMind. Two weeks ago I dropped my goal to become lucud as much as I could, instead focusing on dream recall, vividness, and interpretation, as I saw windows to my inner self through my dreams. Sadly, since then I haven't had any lucid dreams.
I will have to check your post again to let it all sink in, it's too much for one sitting to absorb!

Well to make it simple. :) You can of course have the lucidity as a goal, but it is most effective when you are not focused on the outcome and not get discouraged.

Since I from own experience know that it is a very hard thing, I have found that focusing on lucidity isn't the best approach.

The best approach to progress is to focus on things that you can have as a minigoal like being aware of yourself and for example be aware enough of your dreams to remember them. (It's a powerful minigoal, because it can be the only you need!)

Instead of focusing on scoring a goal each match in soccer and getting frustrated each time you don't, focus on the small but powerful tasks that will take you that goal.
Like teamwork, better ball control, better aim, stronger legs. And it will slowly and steady make you both master soccer and give you that goal in the process!

Same for lucid dreaming, focus on the buildingstones of lucid dreaming: Awareness of the Dream: (Subconscious, memory and emotions)

What I described above is a way to place a thing in the subconscious with intent, which can be a doozy. ^-^ - SUBCONSCIOUS INTENT

Be aware of your emotions during the day, example: When you are angry ask yourself: Why am I angry? - EMOTION AWARENESS
There is a subconscious awareness as well, but I think subconscious intent is better.

Although you can be aware of it all at the same time as well and that is to be aware of the self and that is practised through - MEDITATION :meditate:

But I hope this post made it clearer and I can make a quote as well - To be aware of your dreams, you need to be aware of yourself. Because that is what dreams are, an experience of yourself.
