I have a hard time putting the name "Lucid" to what I call becoming aware that you're dreaming during the dream itself, but I'll go with it. My question is do those of you who have have had or are able to have "Lucid" dreaming experiences also experience sleep paralysis? I find myself being fully concious but without being able to open my eyes or move my body, and I dont mean during a dream. It has to be one of the most frightening feelings in the world.
Ever experienced "old hag"? Apparently it runs in families.
It's where you wake up, but you see a spirit/demon thing coming towards you, and it sucks the soul out of you (well, it dosen't really). But it is an extremely frightening experience, as you are enteriely awake as this happens.

The word 'lucid' doen't exactly mean 'aware' but becomming lucid, makes you aware that it is a dream;putting your dreams into a 'clear view', or they are more 'easily understood;clear'.
haha, yeah, it is actually a lucid dream. Sleep paralysis is a natural phenomenon of sleep. Happens every night whether you like it or not. Sometimes it can even carry on into when you wake up, or if you are doing WILD you can feel it before you slip into a dream conciously.
I don't think that I have ever had Sleep paralysis where I was aware of it. Maybe I have but I don't remember. That happens to me a lot. Oh well.
Yeah, sleep paralysis is common. It's like having a huge weight on you that prevents you from moving.
Once you understand what is happening, you can use it to your advantage.
If you are in sleep paralysis, you can drop back into a lucid dream much easier than if the paralysis has worn off.
It's kind of fun!
is there anyway to induce it?
From what I understand about thw WILD method, you will pass through it on your way to entering a lucid dream. The only times I have ever experienced it were after waking from a lucid dream early in the morning.

I've encountered sort of sleep paralysis too, but I was able to open my eyes and look around, and I could also control my breathing but I couldn't move a muscle. I found if I concentrated really hard I might be able to move a finger slightly or something like that but nothing that involved real physical effort. I discovered that I could eventually wake myself up by hyperventilating.
Now the strangest thing about these is that I don't know if I was really "sleep paralyzed", or if I simply dreamt that I was. It's quite possible that it was all some sort of dream, no?
You don't need to induce it, it happens every night. As seeker says, when you WILD you will pass through it. I suppose from an LD you might be able to learn to wake up to it.Quote:

Ultima, that was probably sleep paralysis. You should be able to move your eyes and control your breathing - the muscles for these functions are not paralyzed because the eyes move for REM sleep and, of course, we need to breath.
That's what I do. I can't open my eyes, but I struggle really really hard to move my finger, and eventually my whole body jerks and I wake up. But I know I'm not asleep because I can hear the TV in the back ground.Quote:

No I've never seen any old hags come after me. As pissed as I get when I can't move my body a demon is the last thing that wants to come near me as I'd be one cranky mother fucker. I'd send it running. I'm not afraid of shit like that. No mortal or immortal being frightens me. Being paralysed does.Quote:

Besdies being cranky, you'd also be paralyzed... hence the fear...
I've had several of these "dreams" and I occasionally "wake up" to them or come out of LDs into these paralyzed states. I'm the opposite. -Being paralyzed does not frighten me... it's the fact that I cannot move to defend myself against the "hags" (if and when they appear) that makes me frightened :eek: and cranky too :furious:
I find being Paralysed to be quite amusing.
Yeah, it's a really really scary thing sometimes. I get scared even after experiencing it so many times (cause I can't think during it) My mind feels like 20% active, but body totally sleeping.
When it happens to me, I think I'm awake, and I feel my eyes are open, but that's the most I can do. I usually find myself under my blanket, feeling like I'm suffocating under it, thinking I might die! I usually pass through and wake up unscathed. :D
I've been told by a friend that this may be myeslf in the dream, but I'm not sure... Just a few times I've been able to break out of it somehow out of strong will and move my body. It's a really WEIRD feeling to try to do that, haha.
