I think I may have had my first lucid dream, and other assorted questions.

So last night, I think I may have had my first lucid dream or something strange at least! My dream recall is not the best at the moment, but I remember a good 40-60% percent of what happened. It was very short, but I definitely recall and remember the feelings. I've been using the push your fingers through your hand reality check for the past week, just to say. So the dream starts and I was in this strange skyscraper, it looked like a museum because of all of the stands around with items inside them. But all of a sudden, I remember seeing my fingers go through my hand and this weird feeling. The feeling felt so instant, it was like I was being sucked into the dream, I don't really know how to explain it except that it felt like my real self was getting sucked into my dream body. It was like a vacuum, the only real way I can explain it. It felt very amazing, a new sense all together. I've never really felt it before, it just felt so new. After that, I don't remember the dream very well. I remember trying to fly, but that was about it. But, I do remember having another dream telling my brother about the lucid dream shortly after that dream, and I thought it was reality but I guess not, it ended too, but before it ended I remember my dream self trying to perform a reality check again, I'm not really sure why. I'm actually really jumbled up with the dream, I don't know what it was. The bad dream recall isn't really helping me either, but I was wondering if that was indeed a lucid dream. Also, another irrelevant question is this; can lucid dreaming cause insanity or twist someones mind? I don't mean personally, but is it possible for someone to actually be stuck not knowing what reality is anymore? I mean, when I woke up from that yet to be determined dream last night, my mind was very jumbled up. I didn't really know what was going on, so I performed some reality checks and figured it out for myself. But is it possible for someone to lose grasp on reality and lucidity? Thanks!

Whether it was lucid or not depends on that if you had knowledge that it was a dream at that moment, so if you remember having that, congrats on first lucid! :thumbup:
And no, don't think lucid dreams can twist someone's mind or anything, and according to some people lucid dreams can even actually help with some mental illnesses, and my first lucid left the :wtf: feeling as well, but i got used to it quickly for sure.

Yep, I knew it was a dream! Sweet, hopefully next time I am able to actually control and have a lot of time in the dream, and remember it! Thanks, and what was your first feeling when you had a lucid dream?

When i first became lucid (also when i become lucid now, but i guess you don't pay as much attention to it) it felt very much like you describe.
Like you are a completely passive spectator, until something triggers your lucidity.
At this point it feels like you are "entering" your dream body and feeling all of it's senses, much like a sci-fi'ish body transfer, coupled with the feeling of your mind ""waking up". It is really not easy to describe, but it is so cool! :P

Alright guys, thanks a lot! I'm just glad to see that the reality checks are actually working, I doubted the philosophy of it for a little bit. I hope I have some more soon!

I've read some experiences where people get so obsessed over reality checking that they kinda become paranoid and become socially awkward. However I don't think it'll drive you crazy if you don't let it (and if you don't have some preexisting mental condition). Just make sure to keep yourself in check and stay healthy :)
