Lightbulb Learning Ji-jitsu in a lucid dream

I have been wondering about this for some time now but I haven't been able to find any information on the matter so I thought i would ask here.
Is it possible to practice/train/learn stuff inside a lucid dream and then apply it to real life.
Jiu-jitsu is just an example and a catchy headline. I have also thought about rehearsing speeches for school etc.
I have not had a lucid dream yet so unfortunatly I can't try for myself.
I hope someone's got a clarifying answer for me!

By the way i realize that Jie'jitsu would require physical training aswell. Not only for strength an stamina but also for you body to actually learn the moves (nerve endings etc.) but I think you get the idea of my question

Actually practicing moves in a lucid dream will help your real life skill to do those moves, since the brain still makes effort to do them. You can also use lucids as time to memorise any info you personally wish to, although I'm guessing that rehearsing a speech would be a tad more difficult since you need to remain relatively calm for it and dreams tend to become very distracting. But hey, if you want to rehearse a speech it's easier to do it in waking life, and you then don't waste lucid time you have that you could otherwise spend blowing up mountains with a flick of your hand

      Sounds awesome!
Your answer sure makes me look forward to lucid dreaming even more!

Btw I'm not a big speecher, just thought it would be a good example
I don't know what i would practice in a dream to be honest.

I've heard conflicting reports on whether or not you can train/practice real life skills in lucid dreams. However, the one thing you can do is practice speeches. Speicifically you can practice MAKING speeches, you may not be able to make SPECIFIC speeches that you personally wrote (Your memory in dreams, lucid or not, is still rather poor) but you can improve your ability make speeches to large crowds. Though how one would be intimidated while making a speech to crowds of people who are actually just figments of your own imagination, in a world that you are literally a God of, is a little beyond me but I haven't made a speech to DC's so who am I to say anything on the subject.

As for practicing Ji-Jitsu I cannot say, however I doubt that a person is capable of practicing such a complex physical activity in their dreams. I doubt this because of the simple fact that you are not bound by any physcial laws in dreams, and thus nothing can prevent you from cheating or praciticing something that you are completely incapable of doing in real life. For instance, a person who has no prior experience in karate, Judo, kung fu, or ji-jitsu in real life is completely capable of performing a 360 flying tiger-ninja kick while eating a omlet.
Now would this person actually learn something from that experience? Maybe. Would he learn anything useful? Almost certainly not.
You may be able to practice simple things in dreams, such as riding a bike, but highly complex motions and movements may not be possible.

Ofcourse I am not a neuro-scientist so my opinions carry little weight. That's just my 2 cent's though.

      Definetly some good points.
Maybe you would be able to apply physical laws to yourself or something like that, considering your effectively a god? Perhaps it would work then. I wouldn't know though. Because as i mentioned already I never had a lucid dream.
Guess I'll have to try for myself once in the future when I'm good enough at lucid dreaming. (Unless someone has actually tried it)
My enthusiasm is still as high as ever!

Hm, lucid dreaming means being aware of yourself being in a dream, correct? if that's the case, I have to say at least half of my dreams are lucid... including this one I'm about to share: (relevant to this thread's topic)

So I got this dream last week (still fresh in my mind till now):
From the point of where I remembered, I was one of the drivers, and was to follow a bunch of cars in front of me (probably going somewhere with my friends). Then I suddenly realized I'm driving a manual transmission car, and knew that I had no experience with it; I only know how it's supposed to work theoretically, based on what I've heard a lot in real life.
In reality, I have no experience driving a manual transmission car (just lots of experience with automatic). I have tried manual once without success and further attempts.
So back to the dream: so I used my theoretical knowledge to drive that manual transmission car and tried to follow the car in front of me. Fortunately, the speeds of cars are slow due to traffic, so I stayed in the 1st gear (never had to change to 2nd gear for that part, which I did not really want to do judging my very novice skills). The theory was to step down the clutch to the bottom, change to 1st gear, then apply gas gradually while releasing clutch gradually at the same time. So I did that in the dream (something I did not dare to do on a busy street in real life), and was able to drive the car on the street slowly.

And basically that's it for the dream. So to summarize, I've taken my theoretical knowledge of something, and applied it in a "practical" case (to some extent) in my dream (I just knew i was in the dream...don't know why). Not too sure if I could apply it in real life. But I have put a lot of thoughts into this, and decided it DID make sense to some extent, and maybe I could actually try it under safe conditions when I have the chance! Just MAYBE this dream helped me learn faster!(?)

I agree. I have practiced martial arts in my dreams, and found that it is actually beneficial. In fact, one of the theories as to the reason behind nightmares is that we are preparing ourselves for an actual event. Dreaming of a predator chasing you may help prepare you for a time when something is chasing you.

However, I find the idea of LEARNING anything, outside of your own mind, extremely unlikely.
---o--- my DCs say I'm dreamy.

But any law that you try to apply will never be more than an illusion. And since you are lucid you will always know that it is an illusion. And simply thinking about it being an illusion will render it void. Any rule that you create can be bent at any time for any reason. It could be bent consciously or subconsciously. Purposely or accidentally.

So I'm with TranquilityTrip in saying you won't learn any real technical skills in a lucid dream that you can transfer into real life. But the experiences in the dream can still be very entertaining and help build enthusiasm for practice in real life. And they can also allow you to see what you're doing with a different perspective that could translate to new ideas in real life.
