Is the handsfree nosepinch a good RC?

You know what I mean - the way you can close your nasal passage off near the esophagus (or there's also a way to do it higher up inside, if you're breathing in sharply enough - if you let it make some sound you can tell the difference between the two).

I thought it might be a good idea to use this method since it can be done without moving - good for those DEILD attempts. Plus you can do it in public without looking like some kind of freak with a coke habit.

But then it suddenly occurs to me - is it possible to make yourself actually do it when you're dreaming? I mean, would it fail as an RC because you can actually close off your inner nasal passages? I'm not sure if your head is paralyzed in REM atonia or not, since the eyes can move and people say they can turn their heads if they try. I'd hate to get myself in the habit of doing this and it turns out to be a total fail RC!!

Surely somebody out there does this or has done it - let's hear about how well it works.

Hm, never practiced that one. I prefer these motionless RCs:

      1. If this was a dream, I would levitate.

Substitute "levitate" with some control. Like "that beer would be a sixpack; that TV would be a flat screen; that car would be Enterprise; that wall would be blue...

Let your fantasy run amok. I find these to be very poverfull, because they are so much fun to do IWL, so it easily transfers into dreams.

Thanks Gab! I've never been good at control like that - about the only thing I've been able to do when I'm lucid is fly or pass through windows. Can you make things change like that while you're looking at them, or do you look away and then back?

When I came up with the idea it was really for a DEILD attempt, some kind of RC you can do when you wake up (to see if it's an FA) without having to move or open your eyes.

The levitate is kinda universal RC, but it's the only RC I know you can use during WILDing, or DEILDing, when you think you may have crossed into a dream, or you absolutely sure you are still awake. It will not ruin your attempt, because you don't need to move a muscle to do it.

I did the "If this was a dream, that picture (hanging on a wall) would be blue" in a dream. I thought it didn't work, so as I was turning to walk away, I cought it again from corner of my eye and it had changed. Wasn't blue, but a smaller picture was superimposed on the bigger one. So I figured, you should look away and then back.

Maybe some auditory RC would be nice for a DEILD. Like "If this was a dream, I would hear birds singing".

You know, I didn't think I have much control either. My LDs are usually very short, so not much time to practice, but just keep thinking about it and imagining during day how you will do it in LD. May sound crazy, but I practice yelling commands, stabilizing, summoning during day. I pretend I just got lucid and I go for it. First I tell my cats not to get scared, mommy is gonna be yelling and I make sure my window is closed, and I yell "stabilize" and "clarity now" and "awareness now" and "look how is everything detailed". I crawl on all 4 to stabilize by touching ground, pat my clothes, touch the walls, summon stuff behind me, ...

And in my last LD, I summond Tahity. I have been trying for a long time. So keep trying.

It never occurred to me to use levitating as an RC. You learn something new every day! Thanks guys!

My regular Rcs ar plugging me nose and beathing in, pinching my arm, and trying to put my finger through my other palm.
Do not try and bend the spoon--that's impossible. Instead only try and realize the truth...there is no spoon. Then you will see that it is not the spoon that bends

      it is only yourself
