I'm New and Very Interested! Also a desperate Question!

Hello Everyone!

I'm new here. I've been searching for much information of LD for a few months now and they all seem to lead me here. I decided to sign up! I'm looking forward hearing and sharing ideas.

I do have a question about my last night experience (not a large portion or maybe not even at all LD).
A little background about me is, I'm a beggining dreamer, very motivated, I'm a young adult. I've been skeptical about LD for a while now but I've made somewhat a hobby trying to begin. I've purchased LeBerge's book for my tablet and I've seen reading it and its very general from what I've been reading for a while now.

For my question about last night;l

I went to be at 10. A little while before, I was doing the MILD technique, "Am I dreaming or not?" for about 20minutes before bed. I did this while brushing, flossing, cleaning up, and pretty much preparing for bed. When I finally laid to rest, I did another technique I read about. Is to imagine that you are dreaming or what you'd want to dream. Strangely, my phrasing and images mixed together in my head. I tried to sleep, however, I had an unnerving reaction to every little sound and my body itching/ spasming, but worst of all, I felt as if I was being lifted and tilted when I shut my eyes.

I kept waking up to this signals thinking I had false awakening, so I did many, many, many reality checks. Finally, I came to the conclusion I was scared and I couldn't sleep.

Any idea what happened to me?

Being scared is pretty normal. Most everyone experiences it. Think about it this way:

You are traveling somewhere you have never been, and you have no idea what awaits you. You barely know what to expect. Traveling dimensions does seem kind of crazy.(going from the 3 dimensions we normally perceive to the dream dimensions)

It makes sense to be scared I has the same feeling the first few times as well. After a few LDs you should feel like you have some better control, you can always wake yourself up!

In my opinion, it seems like you were experiencing some hypnagogic hallucinations when you felt like you were being tilted and lifted when you were closing your eyes. When you said you had unnerving reactions to every little sound, that could be part of the hallucination OR have something to you with your mind being aware while your body is starting to fall asleep. So that means you get to notice the transition from awake to asleep which you normally wouldn't notice, so it's kind of being hyperaware to your environment while in that state.

You were on the beginning stages of that place in sleep where all of the things we speak of here begin to take place. The strange sensations were the equivalent of hypnogogic imagery, yet in another form. I have been in that state and felt some of the strangest sensations, heard voices that weren't there, saw things that weren't there, felt things that weren't there, for hours and hours on end.
Indeed, some of the things I have experienced, at this level, have been among the most intense sensations I have ever felt.
It can be scary if you aren't used to it. But you really do get used to it. Take what you experienced as a tiny piece of evidence to testify. You said that you were a sketptical, which is admirable. Skepticism is wise. What you felt, however, is a small piece of what you will experience in the future, if you continue studying this part of your brain/mind. (Most of) The statements and testiments here are true. People speak as if these experiences are life-changing, awe inspiring, and amazing, and the truth is that they really are.
It should also be noted that a good, clean lucid dream is much more confortable, relaxing, sensical, and less confusing than what you experienced. Hypnogogic hallucinations, as you felt, can be very disorienting, powerful, uncomfortable, and even scary.
But it's all so fascinating. An entire aspect of the human brain that the general population is completely unaware of is open to you and me to explore. It has many many layers or states of being. I have studied my own hypnogogic/dream states for about twenty years, and I still find new states, new sensations, and new things to explore.

It's weird. lol
