I've found DILDs to be more realistic than WILDs actually. Although I have to say I only had two of each and the WILDs were probably beginners luck or flukes.
But my DILDs have been like real life realitity, I spent 5 min doing checks before I believed I was dreaming during my first DILD.
I find its easier to have DILDs that are vivid, this is because im coming into an already created dreamworld that has all the details worked out, if i wanted to build the same dreamworld in a WILD from scratch it would take at least a little effort, and probably a lot if you aren't experienced with dream control. At the same time, i find it easier to alter the world in WILDs, whereas in DILDs i seem to have more control over the DCs, since im not focusing on stopping the dreamworld from collapsing.
There are a three ways that make a dream vivid in my opinion.
1) location
You just become lucid in a really vivid dream and don't need to change anything. It was already that way
2) expectation
You could become lucid anywhere and expect it to be blurry. The dream will go down to your expectations
3)stability
You either get excited or beat up in the dream and are losing it. Blurry is normally a good chance to stabilize.
#3 can fix #2 if you let it. So any time it is blurry just stabilize so you can enjoy the dream.
Here is my favorite stabilization tech:

DILD or WILD shouldn't make much difference in this, but you might need to stabilize more for DILD if you are becoming lucid at the end of REM (which is the most likely time to)
Yeah, I don't imagine there could be much difference since dreaming is dreaming and consciousness is consciousness :)
I don't believe WILD's and DILD's are really the same experience. But that's just an opinion. I don't have any scientific facts to back it up. Just my experience has shown that even my best DILD's don't compare to the clarity and realistic feeling of my WILD's. The difference between the two is strong enough that I no longer put any effort into DILD's and focus exclusively on WILD's.
As you can see from the above posts it really varies from person to person, for me they are generally equal. What I have noticed is that usually my second lucid through the night is usually a lot more vivid than my first. I can start by dild or wild but they both have an equal level of clarity, it's the deild which follows which usually has a higher quality for me.
My dream recall is great. Some nights I just don't feel that into it and will only recall fragments in the morning, but as long as I'm actively interested in remembering my dreams for the night they will be extremely vivid and long lasting.
It's possible, but as dutchraptor said it's indeed varied from person to person. :peek:
For me personally i think WILDs are more vivid, but considering my last DILD, they are not really far away.
