Lucid dream help?
Hey DV, I've noticed a trend and I was wondering if you guys could help me out?
I've had a total of 6 lucid dreams so far in the past 8 months and I've noticed that for each lucid dream, I would be lucid and I know I was lucid after preforming several reality checks and then after a while it just went back into a regular dream. One time I just woke up from being too excited but the other 5 times it's just slowly faded away. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Thanks! :panic:

To solve your first issue, you loosing lucidity, this is what you do.
-Look at your hands and repeat to yourself "this is a dream and I have full control" many times until your doubting that you are not dreaming goes away.
To solve the issue of your dreams fading away this is what you do.
Stability techniques! These are techniques developed to help you stay in a dream longer.
When first entering a dream:
-Stimulate your five senses, especially your tactile ones. Feel everything around you to "anchor" yourself in the dream. Also, you can rub your hands together vigorously for more support.
When the dream begins to fade:
-SPIN! spin around rapidly until you are either once again stable or in a new dream scene
-Dive into the ground to reach "the void" or blackness that occurs when a dream is forming. Just keep diving through the blackness until a new dream forms.
-fall backwards to most likely fall into a false awakening(Dream in which you dream of waking up). Do a reality check to be positive you actually are still in a dream, because they can be almost identical to reality :p

Alright I will definitely try this next time I find myself in a lucid dream, thanks!

To add to what jblb2424 said, rubbing hands also works as well for stabilization, and for when dream destabilizes holding into some object also works. :)

I've been lucid dreaming naturally since the age of two, and since visiting dv all these techniques seem like a straw man. All it takes is the proper inspiration and imagination, when you have a taste of what the self created freedom is like, these techniques just look like beating around the bush. for example, I might stimulate my senses and yes it may make the dream more vivid, but unless I'm doing because of the urge to experience this, then it isn't even worth doing. Or to put it another way, I make mentally confirm I am in control of the dream, though only to take control of it.

To answer more directly; for the first issue, I would recommend keeping busy by interacting with the dream, what I was saying is that many of the techniques don't require the participation level required to actually hold your attention, memorizing and reciting all these things can be like schoolwork as opposed to actually having fun and exploring the state. several reality checks is a bit more than necessary I imagine, if you're doing it for a safety precaution, the first time should do it if you pay attention. Once you get used to the Drealm it becomes less of a surprise that you're there...

I agree ^
Engage your senses in the dream while retaining your awareness. This helps you ground yourself into the dream and make it much less probably for it to fade. Touch objects, think about your goals, and do them. Interact.
Good luck!
