I've been noticing recently that everything good has some bad effect, ive been thinking about this a long time, and then realized something...newtons third(?) law(Which I never really understood, if it exerts an equal force in my direction, then how will a bow that I puch move?) states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and dream control and such seems great, so are there any horrible side effects(Other than the chance of having a bad dream :roll: )?
Lucid dreaming has never resulted in bad effects for me. It does seem to raise my consciousness for a while into my waking state, but that's a good thing. I have never come across a complaint about bad effects. Most people never have scary lucid dreams because they know that the images are dream images and can't hurt them.
As for Newton's Third Law, the bow moves but also causes a force against your hand, just not a strong enough one to necessarily be noticed. A bouncing ball is a good example of his third law.
I had many lucid dreams and I have not had any bad side effects. And as far as nightmares go, LDS are even more of a remarkable thing. Do to the fact that you can control the situation and turn a nightmare around.
I know many people that have been lucid dreaming a lot longer than I have, they too have reported no ill side effects.
As I haver looked over a ton of posts over tha last three years on this site, the only things that I can recall that have created any negetive issues:
1. Feeling tired after waking up from having a lucid dreams.
2. A conflict with the individulas conscience. Mostly due to religios beliefs. Such as the devil being behind it , moral issues, etc.
I have often wondered if someone were to use lucid dreaming as a tool to cause mayhem, havoc, and act indecantly towards other dream characters on a consistant basis if it would eventually take a outward image of your waking self.
But IMO if you do these things in your LDs then I feel that they are just supressed urges that already exist and are more than likely to come out in some form or another eventually.
I really dont think there's any negative side effects of LD'ing. Like howetzer said, unless the person is a little "evil" in their dreams, then yeah, that personality might reflect in real life....
I'm concerned that lucid dreaming might somehow impede the function (whatever that is) of normal dreaming. I don't see any harm in doing it, though, as long as it's in moderation, and not four times every night. Then there'll be plenty of other opportunities for normal dreams to do their thing.
