Is it safe?
For awhile now, I have been trying to lucid dream for an ultimate goal.
Don't get me wrong, I love Lucid dreaming for its endless possibilities, but for awhile now, I have been trying to have a Lucid dream in which i can speak or delve into a lost memory with my dad.
My father had died a couple years ago from a heart attack, I have managed to live with the fact that he is gone, and I am having a good life, BUT I have always wanted to delve deep into a lucid dream and have one last talk with him. Of course i know it wouldn't actually be him there, but it would be a slight satisfaction to believe I actually heard his voice one last time and to talk with him.
If you must understand why exactly that i wish to achieve this, its because the morning he died, I had never told him I loved him, and I feel just saying it and hearing a response would lift so much off my shoulders. Yes, it sounds weird. But Im a young guy- so it may make more sense now.
My questions are:
Do you think this is possible to achieve?
Would it be safe? (would it possibly lead to a nightmare or an unexpected traumatic response?)
Thanks!

This is kind of hard to answer in detail because expectations play a huge part in what happens in a dream and anything a person says to you can transfer in, good or bad. Just know that lucid dreams can be highly potent experiences and their contents can also be highly unpredictable.

Like DMS said, it is difficult to say.
First off, things like this should only be attempted as long as you realize that is is just a dream, and you are doing it merely for that personal closure. It seems like that is the case with you, so that is fine.
Would it be possible to achieve? Well, it would be a Lucid Dream, so yeah it should be possible. Whether or not it would be safe is the tricky part. As DMS stated, expectations play a huge part and thus make dreams quite unpredictable. If you go into it thinking it will turn into a nightmare, chances are it will. Of course, even without that thought process it is still possible. I think it boils down to your level of dream control.
As my personal opinion, I would say don't do it if you have doubts about any of it. If you can go into it confident, it may well be doable.

It could prove bad, but not if you remember that it is just a dream. If you start thinking it is really him it could prove... Well bad.
Personal experience:
DCs either think they are real, dreamers, or spirits. Rarely do they think that they are not real and just figments of your imagination.
If you talked to him and he convinced you that he was real (DCs are really freaking tricky if they want to be) then he could be in a position to traumatize you. A lot of times they will "prove" something to me that when I wake up makes absolutely no sense. Now as long as when you wake up you are confident that it is just a dream, even if he persuaded you it was real in dream, then you should be fine. Gotta be confident in what you believe in about dreams.
I have had DCs convince me that I wasn't dreaming and that I was dead a few times. That is weird. Haha. Next time I might have to check out heaven. :P I also had a DC point to a flower and say that because that flower is there, it is a shared dream. I have no idea how that made perfect sense to me.
