Why can't I remember the people in my dreams?

Hello there

I just wanted to point out the 'problem' that I have in my dreams. When I wake up I NEVER remember the people that were with me in my dreams. Alright, my closest friends and family I do remember, but not anyone else...It's like when I'm thinking about my dream and what happened, the characters just don't have a face. I remember what they did or even said, but not who they were. It's like their identities are directly erased from my memory the moment I wake up...

Does anybody know how to solve this, or why this happens?

I'm no dream expert but i guess ill give in my two cents and hopefully someone more experienced could correct me

when you dream im guessing the mind fills in the extra characters with faces you run into on a daily basis for example at the mall at school etc so you wouldn't be able to know who these people are because the mind just fills in the empty place with a face you may have just walked past in real life

Yeah I think they're just like projections from people you don't even know in reality. Like when you walk on the street in real life you probably won't remember the by passers faces neither after a while. They just populate your dreams, some people maybe won't have projections at all if they feel lonely in the real world. So my theory is pretty much the same as TheBigZ's.

They sound convincing answers. You do remember key people, but not others. I would imagine that that's fairly typical. However, now that you've recognised this you might try to make more of an effort to record whatever details about people you can in your dream journal - no doubt that will improve your recall. The most likely cause is that you're dreaming with people you don't know, thus possessing no clear identity in form of a name when you wake up. It's not always easy to recall a ordinary person's face in dreams. You can always work a bit harder with your dream journal and dream recall to help you become more aware of who you are talking to.
