How quickly should I progress?

I was wondering how quickly to move to another stage of 'lucid training'. I'm currently just excercising my dream recall, not actively trying to become lucid. Would trying to become lucid interfere with my dream recall? I feel I might be able to do it if I set my mind to it (not sure if I actually can, I just feel I can), yet I've only just begun.

For the record, my dream recall is bad, remembering half a dream each night. Though I did manage to wake myself up about 100 minutes after going to sleep, which is what I've been attempting, so my mind does quite readily accept my suggestions. It'd be a waste if I can't remember, yet chances are quite high I'll wake up shortly after becoming lucid, so it'd still be fresh in my memory. What do you think, should I try, or take it one step at a time?

do what you want on your own pace and what you're comfortable with. you can still do some LD'ing inducing techniques while still doing dream journal stuff. In fact i suggest it. Just put in some reality checks, maybe MILD and WBTB(all in tutorials section)

It's a matter of what you feel comfortable with. Along with dream recall, you should write down your dreams in a Dream Journal, or wherever you feel comfortable. This will help with your recall, and will help keep your mind on dreaming.

When you are going to bed at night, simple things like keeping your mind on dreaming and repeating in your head "I will lucid dream tonight" or "I will remember my dreams tonight" should help you out.

Do some reality checks during the day and remind yourself in bed to do them while you are asleep.

I just had an experience that changes everything. I was in my bed, thinking of WILDing, and how strange it would be to let your body fall asleep while your mind remains conscious. So I tried if I could make my body tired while keeping a clear mind. Well, it worked. Remarkably well. Literally within seconds, my breathing shallowed, and I began to feel strange. I could feel my eyes moving around, too. Then it started to tingle everywhere, very intensely. I knew this was supposed to happen, but since I didn't read up much on WILDing yet, I stopped there and woke myself up, before I saw any imagery. I did feel the sensation of losing touch with the real world, I started feeling my bed less and I sort of went into the blackness of my eyes. The ease with which this occured to me was baffling, isn't WILDing supposed to be the advanced technique?

I'll be reading any and all WILDing tutorials before I go to bed now... Not sure if I am going to try it though. It was kind of scary ('mild vibrations', yeah right...) and I'm all shaken up now...

normally yes, but to others it comes easy or sometimes even naturally. looks like you got the natural talent for it. keep progressing with it if you want to see how far you get

I've tried it again, but it didn't work as well as the first time (too excited, I think). I can get to the vibrations stage on command and within a couple of seconds, but I think I need to relax a little more to actually see any imagery. I did notice the black of my eyes 'extending' beyond the border of my normal vision (sort of it flowing over you), and when I moved my eyes my physical ones didn't respond, yet a dream-version did. I'll try again tonight.

And on the subject of dream recall, I remembered two today, quite vividly as well. So I don't think I have to worry about it interfering somehow. Also, the quality of my sleep seems to have been improved, as I didn't get enough today (six and a half hours), and I'm barely noticing the effects.
