Reality Check Assistance Required!

Okay, I usually do reality checks every hour, but now that I'm back in school, its getting pretty hard. The reason for this is that I always say "Am I dreaming?" out loud during an RC. Now, I can't do that in school (I'm self conscious and don't want people thinking I'm weird.) So, is it okay to just say it in my head? And am I doing them often enough? Please help me out! Oh, and I switch off between breathing, time, and hand (finger count) RC's. Is that too many? Not enough? Please get back to me! Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Hi and welcome to DV! You can do as many RCs as you feel comfortable and it is totally ok if you do them in your head if they are people around or even if you are by yourself. Another thing that can complement your RCs is to keep examining your surroundings. Try to pay a little more attention to small details and maybe look for something odd. If nothing's odd just be more mindful of what is generally happening around you. This tech is known as ADA and is closely related to RCs. Take care and see you around. :)

I don't think you can possibly have too many. I have all sorts of ones that I try and reinforce all the time. From flipping light switches off and affirming that the lights go out when I'm not dreaming to jumping up and down occasionally.

Don't see any problem with doing it in your head. I never say anything out loud when I RC personally, I may or may not say it in my head. I examine my hand every time, and after that I tend to alternate between touch my nose, try put put my finger through my hand, or look at my surroundings to see if anything is out of place. Depends on who's around haha. Whatever works for you :)
