When will RCs start happening in dreams?

So according to most tutorials on DILD, the key to it is to look for dream signs and always question reality, and that if you question reality enough, you'll start doing it in dreams too.

My problem with dream signs is that that I'm never conscious enough to realize that they're even in my dream while its happening. No matter how vivid a dream I have, it's always as if I'm just watching everything happen.

That being said, my only option to rely on is RCing and question ing reality. I've been doing so frequently during the day for the past 2-3 weeks. Not once has a RC showed up in my dream. This is causing me to lose enthusiasm, and therefore RC less in waking life.

About how long should it take for me to start questioning reality in my dreams? And waht should I do in real life to make myself better at it?

The awareness is indeed crucial. Dream signs - if you got them, use them. But if you don't, or if you don't want to, that's ok, They are just one part of RCing. You can RC on so many other things. And you can even make your own dream sign.

Thanks for the reply,

I guess my only question is how to actually convince myself that I could be dreaming while awake.. I feel that my awareness questions are sometimes lacking, or somewhat rushed.

Also, would a good awareness question/RC be asking myself what day of the week yesterday was? I just came up with that,and it seems more straightforward than remembering what I did an hour ago.

Yes.. I read that post.. very helpful, but I must be stupid because my question still remains as to how to really convince oneself they are dreaming.. When I do RCs, sometimes I pick out normal things and think they look "different," all for the sake of awareness. I'm fairly certain that's not what I should be doing, though.

You don't have to convince yourself that you are dreaming. But be genuinly curious and don't expect to be be awake. When you RC, think to yourself "wow, wouldn't that be crazy if this really was a dream? And I just didn't notice it yet?" Because you know, that in a regular dream we do believe we are awake. We have no idea it's a dream. Until we RC. (plus awareness).

If you read some posts from others, how their lucids are so incredibly realistic, detailed and focused. If you read some ideas, like what australian aborigenes believe, that this waking life is a dream, and our dreams are in fact our real life. You don't have to believe it straight up. Just think about it. What if? Just have that little doubt in your mind.
Everytime I think "what if this really is a dream, and then I imagine something happening, like my idol walking through the door, and extra six-pack materializing in the fridge, my TV turning into a 72 inch flat screen... It gives me tingles. Try if you can do that.

Ironically, this will become easier, after you had your first lucid. After you first time really feel how it feels to one second KNOW that you are awake, only to have this KNOWING shattered the next second by an RC, which will prove to you, that you are in fact asleep and dreaming.

Hey, no need to apologise. We have all been there. We love answering your questions, because it gives us the opportunity to re-live our first lucid moments and other successes.

The point of asking yourself what were you doing few minutes ago is to build up your memory and to establish yourself inside your environment. So you pay better attention to it. So when in a dream, you will also pay attention to your environment. So even if it's not convenient, or doing something else would be easier, it is an important part of getting your awareness. It will help you gain awareness in a dream by going "wait a minute, what am I doing here. This isn't right, I must be dreaming."

Asking yourself what day was yesterday may not be a good awareness or RC practice. Simply because our logic center is not active in a dream, so if you told yourself "it's friday, you would believe it, no matter if it's true or not. Good luck.

Just gonna be honest here, its mostly a hit and miss situation. I've been lucid dreaming for a month or so, and I've only had 1 DILD. In the DILD you will just know that you are dreaming. You will want to RC in order to confirm it, but most of the time an RC doesn't actually let you know you're dreaming. I would recommend practicing All Day Awareness by king yoshi (google it, I'm too lazy to find the link) Although I haven't found the system very useful there are many others that have. Its worth a try.

Sadly most people will need to stay fairly devoted for around 6-12 weeks before they get even a flash of lucidity. Here is the thing. Until RC becomes just something you do all the time you will not dream about it. Pick any real life thing, such as Dragon Ball-Z. If I tell you about it one time, that is not likely to make you dream about it. If you watch a commercial 12 times, that is probably not enough. If you watch every episode with in a summer break, you are very likely to dream about it,,, perhaps for the rest of your life. Same thing with RC. Around the time you no longer have to try to think about RC and you just do it as part of life, is when it really starts to show up in dreams.

You do not need to believe you are dreaming, you just need to not be convinced you are awake. You need to be truly open to the fact that you very well may be dreaming,,, then go about collecting evidence that will tell you one way or the other if you are. Stay open to the idea that you may just find out this is a dream, then try to determine what factors can give you a definite answer.

Would your question about what day of the week yesterday was be a good one? That deepends on the mental approach you are taking when you do it. As Gab said, in a dream if you think today is Tuesday, then you will just say yesterday was Monday. If you however truly reflect on what happened yesterday and if it fits in with your current idea of what today is, then it is great.

The process would be like this,,, In real life: What day was yesterday? Monday. How do I know that? Because this school has a rotating schedule and I am in Tuesdays science class. What did I do yesterday? I walked to school with Bill and I remember he dropped his books in the mud. What else? I was late because we had to chase after his homework. HMMM, very clear and not confused. This RC points towards being awake, now I will try another....... Compared to in a dream: What was yesterday? Monday. How do I know that? Ummmm, cause it was. Oh, I think it was. What is today? Tuesday, I think? I am in science so it should be Tuesday. What did I do yesterday? Ummmm, crap thinking so hard hurts my head. I don't know. I guess it depends on if it is fall or spring. Maybe I got in a fight? No, I guess I walked to school? This is all very unclear,,, perhaps this is a dream, let me try another RC

Thanks so much for the replies everyone. I've finally got a clear idea of what I should be doing.. You all are very helpful.

I guess now I should try to work on remembering to be aware more during the day. I'm reluctant to rely on a reminder, because I've heard that one might grow accustomed to only RCing when reminded to (via cell phone etc.), so that wouldn't work well in a dream, as you would have to dream about the reminder.

Any other tips/helpful hints about DILDING?

It's ok to use a reminder, or two. At least from the beginning. Later, when you get used to RCing, you can stup reminding yourself. But sometimes even just the act of setting yourself a reminder will help you remember.

Other than that, keep practicing and KNOW, that you can have LD at any moment. Happy dreams:alien:
