Does what we read affect our dreams?

Hey everyone!

I'm doing a scientific research study for a paper for my writing class in college, and I would love for any responses considering the topic of reading and dreaming. I am interested in learning about people's reading habits and looking into the various types of dreams that the individual is experiencing. I am curious if there is a correlation between reading and dreaming, so I need your help!

It will take no more than 5-10 minutes to fill out. Any additional questions or comments would also be appreciated.

I would like to confirm this for myself. I had been re reading game of thrones, and found that my dreams have more medieval-esque scenarios. Also, I found that when I have non lucid dreams, I dream what I had been thinking about or doing that day. If you were to read a book, I feel as though you would be thinking about said book for the rest of the day. Especially if you were to read before going to sleep.

I definitely agree with you. I just unfortunately rarely remember my dreams, so this never really happens to me :/

I think not only what we read, but what we do affects the way we dream, for example I play football. During the time period, my football related dream increase dramatically, almost to the point that there is something football related in my dream every other night. Also things I do that day seem to always have some thing intertwined in my dream.

Well... for me, every time I read a good story usually on the internet, I would have a really long and vivid dream afterwards. Maybe it's only me but I'm guessing that reading books stimulates what you think and sends messages to your unconscious mind to make you dream something from the story.

I think what you occupy you brain with during your day is affecting what you dream, but sometimes it have a delay. I play a lot of video games, and I can play the same game for a week, and after a week I usually get dreams about it, even as I stopped playing for the time being. So I should probably soon get dreams about the game Smite if I'm correct.

But my answer to this is it's not only what you read, but everything you occupy your brain with, if you are worried and think about not getting a certain job a lot for instance you will start dreaming about it.
