Should I mention lucid dreaming at this seminar?

I just noticed that my university will have a seminar about the importance of healthy sleep while studying in a couple weeks, and since this is the closest thing I have seen to lucid dreaming here yet I am very tempted to bring it up at some point during the seminar, since lucid dreaming can obviously improve your sleep quality.
However, lucid dreaming is still a very underground phenomenon, so it might just sound weird for most people there and result in an embarrassing moment, but it would also feel great to bring it up in public.
What do you think?

Why not it would be great to share this phenomenon with your class it most definitely assists in sleep quality and much more i say go ahead if you do run into a embarrassing moment think before the seminar ways you would deal with a situation but yeah go ahead man and tell us how it went i understand where your coming from though i remember i brought up lucid dreaming to a couple friends and no interest at all was shown its surprising but oh well we get the adventures ahah:shadewink:

Good question ! I think you should first evaluate the type of audience and choose the best context.

Nobody can forget that REM is an important part of sleep, so it´s very likely that the proper context to speak about dreams may pop up to. Also, i think "your" seminar probably will talk about sleep schedules alternatives ( like biphasic, everyman, napping..) and so it´s a good moment to mention lucidity as an advantage or side effect.

And many many other things, like nightmares, which may pop up and provide another very good opportunity.

If you do end up mentioning it, be warned that you might get a lot of people asking you of help with it.

Yes, so far I have kind of tried to spread lucid dreaming in more discrete ways, like bringing with me Exploring The World of Lucid Dreaming to the school library if I feel like reading it anyway, but nobody seems even remotely interested. :P
So it would feel pretty nice to actually bring it up among lots of people.

My biggest concern, though, is that the presenter during this seminar will obviously be very knowledgeable about sleep, and it would feel a little unpleasant if he or she turned out to not have a clue what lucid dreaming actually means.
You would expect a sleep reasearcher to at least have some knowledge about this, but then again lucid dreaming is still quite unknown even in tthe field of sleep and dreaming.

The other students are one thing - if the presenter will go into it a bit and know about it as well - the other students will at least then not look at you in an overly doubtful manner..

What exactly do you mean with "a sleep researcher"?
What class is this - in which context - what subject is this belonging to?

Because a genuine sleep researcher should really know about it - and it would not be a problem..
But if it is another psychologist, or - don´t know who else , who is not really concerned with the state of the art of science concerning sleep and dreams - the situation looks different then, maybe.
Soo - who will it be?
Could be a great chance to spread the word - but Tradl has a point - you might end up with your own seminar to hold..;)
Maybe take with you some printouts of stuff from the LD science department - maybe talk with her or him up front?

If this is a Psychology department seminar, you're fine. The research area is a bit impoverished but students and faculty generally do know what lucid dreaming is and will probably be very interested.
