The Haunted Room at Grandpa's House

I was able to learn DEILD rather quickly. I assumed learning WILD would be just as easy, and have been struggling with it for a few weeks... several rather unpleasant experiences, feeling threatened and uncomfortable no matter what else was going on in the dream.

Then last night, after a WILD attempt, the strangest thing happened. I woke up flooded with memories of practicing WILD as a youngster, maybe 6 or 7 years of age. At the time WILDing just seemed like the thing to do, and it was easy for me. Curiously until last night I had forgotten all about that part of my childhood other than that I always thought of that bedroom as "the haunted room at Grandpa's."

Here's what I remembered after last night's WILD.
Sleeping over at Grandpa's one night I woke up in the middle of the night and decided to dream... I didn't realize I always dreamed, because for the most part, I only remembered WILDS. That night, my WILD turned into a nightmare in which I was being chased by an incredibly powerful evil spirit, and I couldn't wake myself up. It caused me to feel a physical sensation of pure terror. The closer it got to me, the worse the sensation.

I ran through the house and locked myself in the upstairs bathroom, but it was only seconds before this force or whatever it was broke down the door, in desperation I smashed the window and jumped out, the idea being I would fly away, and it would never catch me. But I couldn't fly, and I went crashing to the ground... at which time I woke up in bed shaking and in a cold sweat.

A few weeks later, I decided it had been just a nightmare and gave dreaming in my own room a try. That ended in an even worse experience with IT and ended my childhood WILDING career for good.

      So much for the past.

I decided that tonight I'm going to DEILD to enter a dream state, and then I'm going to find IT, whatever it is, and deal with it.

I feel a little stupid about this, that at my age this IT still scares me, but advice from people who have dealt with similar situations would be appreciated.

On the plus side, this whole affair has given me the inspiration for a short story.

I'm not surprised that you are interested in writing. I find your posts quite entertaining.

Personally I usually turn and fight, but that is my nature and my training in life; whether it be man, bear or "thing", though I have read that this is not usually the best solution (EWOLD).

Thanks, Meskhetyw. I am indeed looking to embark on a career as a writer.

Meanwhile... On one of Sageous's WILD threads he suggested that the "IT" I encountered may have been serving a purpose... to prevent me from LDing at an age where it wasn't healthy. That nudge got me to thinking, and below is my response to him.
      --------------------------------------------------------

I might have been a little older. Most of my memories from that time frame are rather vague. I do recall that I had a habit of "watching the colors" while falling asleep. I'm not sure if I truly stayed conscious, or if I would recognize I was dreaming and become lucid after the fact. I did want to be conscious in my dreams, and I'm certain that I liked the experience of it... at least until the nightmares.

In my lucid dreams I could will myself to float a few feet above the ground. I remember that because I recall how disappointed I was when I tried doing it in real life and could not.

As I write this, more memories of that time frame come back to me. I remember being worried that some day I might think I was dreaming when I wasn't, try to fly off the roof or something else stupid, and hurt myself. During that period, every once in a while I would see if I could float, just to find out for sure if I was awake or dreaming. I recall once I was able to float and it impressed the hell out of my friends. I was elated! Then I realized I was dreaming and that kind of ruined it.

      Hmmm...
To this day I have a scar on my forehead from "falling" off the top framework of a swing set. I don't recall the event at all, but I wonder if I thought I was dreaming and tried to fly?

Maybe what you wrote earlier about the purpose of the EVIL IT was correct. A little boy who has trouble telling the difference between when he's dreaming and awake could get into a lot of trouble. Was probably for the best that IT intervened and put an end to my LDing.

I was a strange little kid.

Sageous has a rather profound understanding of the dream world, and I've found his WILD turtorial and feedback to be helpful.
