I am a natural lucid dreamer, and I'm scared?

I just started lucid dreaming out of nowhere since last night, and I am pretty freaked out about it. I did not purposely try to lucid dream or try in any way. It just happened. I am 19 years old, going on 20. I have never lucid dreamed before in my life. I had a bad nightmare and woke up at about 5 am. I then went back to bed after being up for a bit, and that was where my body was connected to my dreams, and I could control what I was doing by moving my hands which would then occur the same in my dream, as well as I was fully aware that I was dreaming. It's like I am half awake and half asleep. Then the second time at around 7 am I went back to sleep and it happened. I ended up flying above a lake by my own control, and evaded what would be a nightmare. Please help, I'm scared and need encouragement. It is all so foreign to me since my whole life I have not been aware in my dreams.

Virtually everyone here would love to have lucid dreams every night. It would be awesome. Just have fun with it. What makes you afraid of it?

But having natural LDs one night doesn't necessarily mean you're a natural LDer. You may never have an LD again if you don't try. I think most people get interested in LDing because they had a natural one one night, but then it takes weeks of work & practice to have the next one.

I think it's just the fact that my whole life I have had dreams every night in which I was not aware. So it's unknown and foreign to me is all. Just something new that I'm not used to. But yes, I will do my best to have fun with it if it does come around frequently. I think it could be used as a great tool to evade nightmares, since I used it to my advantage for that same reason last night. I enjoyed flying over a great big lake with bushes in it last night. It was enjoyable; being in control. We will see if the LD dreams come around again tonight or soon. Thanks for the information.

Yeah that's actually one of the things LDs are supposed to be good for: taking control of nightmares and getting yourself out of them, or at the very least not being so bothered by them because you understand you're dreaming. Well good luck.

There is a case for confronting nightmares, rather than running from them. I'll let someone who knows more about it than me come along and tell you the details.

Ok... don't know how to start a discussion so bare with me. When I was17 I decided that it would be a good idea to swim 3 full lengths under water without coming up for breath. I was showing off yes. When I did I took a big gulp of air and it felt like a bomb went off in my head, was terrible. I was on vacation at the time and this pain didnt go away so I ended up sleeping in the hotel room... and I started having weird ass dreams, which were completely lucid and which I was in total control of, ill point out at this point id never even heard of lucid dreams before, infact only just have 10 years later. I also, and whether a coincidence or not I dont know, dreamt I was in a car with my mates as the were driving through smoke and fire. This was all within days of me getting this mega headache I couldnt shift. When I eventually got home from the holiday, it turns out there was a fire and my friends were in fact driving through the smoke as it blew across the road and they couldn't see a thing, same as my dream. My headache lasted a month and eventually the dr told me I had got an air pocket from starving myself of oxygen, which is now all fine etc. Since then I have lucid dreamed all the time most days without trying. On the bus home from work, napping whilst reading, watching tv etc. Not so much when I eventually settle for bed but quite often. And its instant, sometimes I close my eyes and thr images are just there and im dreaming but not dreaming. Always starts out completely random until I take control and I always remember specific things more like names ive never heard and stuff... im wondering A: has anybody heard of a trigger like this before and B: the whole thing with my mates in the car, just weird. . And that has happened now and then since but not as strongly, is it common? Again sorry for hijacking post im new to the site.
