Can a Dream within a Dream prolong your lucid time?

Hi! I was wondering, if you have a dream within a dream could you prolong your lucid time? let me explain it to you. So if at the start of your dream you become lucid and you decide enter in a dream within a dream. Teoreticly after that dream within a dream will end you will ''wake up'' in your original dream, and you will be able to ''explore'' it, and after it ends you wake up into reality. Its possible to use this technique to double your lucid dreaming time?

Well, you wouldn't be actually in a dream withih a dream. You may think you you are sleeping in the dream and having another dream, but it's just a change in the scene. If you wake up from a dream within a dream, you may wake to reality. What is similar is having a false awakening. The benefit is that the dream may ge fading, and then you think you woke up, but actually be still in a dream, and that would pronologue the dream, but when the REM cycle ends, you have to wake up.
Your idea sounds inception style, but too bad it doesn't actually happen. I wish.

      I have Inception on DVD!!!
I love it!! It excited me into my first LD!!!
Don't worry about LD duration. You can become skilled at dream stabalization and last for an hour in a LD!!(depends on the time of REM you got left)

It's not that it won't work. There are ways to alter time perception (I don't believe in time dilation, but I do believe into tricking yourself into thinking that an experience lasted way more than normal), and you can always play with that. For example, inducing a Inception-lime false awakening (pseudo-dream within a dream), could potentially have some interesting results. You should go ahead and try it if you feel like it, lucid dreams are amazing backgrounds for memory tweaks and tricks (I know a lucid dreamer that was using his lucids to find "lost" childhood memories just as an example).

Personally, I think lucid dreaming becomes much more mysterious and fascinating if you're explore it having in mind what we know about the brain (no pun intended) than actually exploring it with supernatural views (nothing wrong with them though!).

I personally think it's possible, as I've had various dreams where I have slept in the dream to later wake up in the previous dream but I have had cases where I woke up directly too. Maybe it's like a belief thing, just like when people say that if you believe it can happen then it will, so I don't think this would be an exception. Or perhaps it may just cause an illusion that the dream is prolonged. I guess it's all about putting it to the test for yourself, and even if it doesn't work the way you planned it you may have an amazing experience. I also think that when a dream within a dream happens to me it feels that the new dream is more stable than the previous one.

Yes, like what Zoth said. You can make the dream feel longer. You know when you watch a movie and you feel it lasted a lot? You can do that. For instance, in a movie, the character sets an alarm at night and after a few seconds it time becomes daytime and the alarm rings. What felt like hours actually happened in seconds! Try doing something like that in your next LD, I'm sure it'll feel longer. And donlt forget to do a RC when you wake, cuz it might be a FA

I dont know but today i had really long lucid dream by going to sleep with itention to have lucid dream while being in a dream already. So i dreamed that i that i was going to go sleep and have a lucid dream and it worked. The lucid dream was really vivid and colorful and i had amazing dream control. It lasted about 30 min until i woke to reality.

It seems that a dream in a dream might be a good idea for dream control. Maybe, but surely it is still the same stage of sleep

I had a dream where I levitated out of bed. Then I proceeded to do reality checks: checked my hands, jumped, played with the light switch (none of them worked, sadly). I looked at my phone and the time was 08:27 AM. I decided to go back to sleep. I then had a long, vivid dream.

When I woke up (for real, this time), I checked the time again and, I shit you not, It was 08:27 AM!

It seems to me, sometimes when we go into a new dream, it is a dream-within-a-dream, and sometimes its a totally new dream.

Are you looking for time dilation techniques?
