A query about visualization and mental imagery
Hello, this is my first post here, sorry for not introducing myself properly.
I'm kind of worried. It was not until recently that I realized that my visualization skills might really be lacking compared to other people. I'm talking about simply imagining things with your mind's eye, not actually seeing images on the back of your eyelids. I don't know if one thing leads to another but it would be good if it did, as I always wanted to be able to see the things I imagine with my eyes closed.
But anyway, I've heard lots of people saying that this is a skill that can be improved if you practice, but I have been visualizing stuff actively for about 2 months now and things are just as bad as when I started. Both the clarity of my visuals and my ability to focus on them are unchanged. If I had to describe it, I'd say that what I "see" is a blurry, "30% opacity" image that quickly fades because I lose my concentration very easily. I have tried multiple doing multiple things: I have tried doing the stuff that's in the thread "Inducing trance to WILD"; I have tried to meditate; I have tried to relax until I saw HI. I even tried to visualize stuff inside a lucid dream before but it's just as bad as in real life. These are the things I can remember right now, none of them ever worked.
I don't know if it's related but sometimes I can chain LDs, and everytime I wake up and close my eyes again, it doesn't take long until I can see very vivid imagery forming in the darkness. Although I can't manipulate it or visualize any of it simply by imagining it, it makes me think that the skill to do so is there, I just don't know how to grasp it.
I also never experience HI no matter how long I lie down and don't move. The most I can get are very faint outlines of images that fade away as soon as I notice them.
So I was wondering, how clear are you guys's mental images? And if you know of any methods to improve the clarity of one's mental images. Or maybe any medications that might help? I was thinking of trying nootropics to see if they help. Does galantamine cause vivid imagery?
