Extracting and processing information
So I'm sure at least some of you have heard of 'mental photography.' If not, it is essentially the the process of skimming through a book at very high speeds. In fact, the pages are generally turned so fast that you can't consciously read any of the words as your skimming. The aim is that the information contained in the book is read only by your subconscious mind and sent directly into long term memory. If done correctly it allows the reader(i.e. the photographer) to remember large quantities of information in very small amounts of time. The problem with the method is that most people are not able to access their subconscious mind that easily and actually recalling the information can be difficult.
Since in dreams we have much easier access to our minds, would it be possible to extract and process this information in a lucid dream. Effectively, the purpose is taking large portions of normally inaccessible information and turning it into knowledge easily remembered and understood in conscious thought. Obviously, some effort would have to be made during the processing stage while dreaming, but is it possible.
I also realize that text can often be unstable in dreams, but I am confident that information from text read IRL can still be processed in the dream world.
P.S. I have had some experience with mental photography, but as I said remembering the information can be hard. More often than not the only recall I got was a random thought that popped to mind when prompted be some external stimulus. It is a similar to a forgotten dream. You can know you had a dream, but cannot consciously remember the content. Then later in the day something triggers the memory and parts of the dream come rushing back.
