Question What technique was used in my first Lucid Dream?

      Hello people!

This is my first post and thread on these forums, I discovered Lucid Dreaming about 3 months ago, and I've been constantly looking on this forum for information.

I had my first Lucid experience some days ago. I've been recently trying (some months ago) to achive a Lucid Dream by DILD, but without success or much effort put into it, I focused on learning how to control the dreams and how they worked. And this day I had a random Lucid Dream without any intention at all!

The same day I had gotten my Morphsuit/Zentai suit in the mail, and I was playing videogames all night with the morphsuit on. I got pretty sleepy at about 4-5AM and had to take a nap, I put the morphsuit mask on and tried napping, I laid completely still and my skin didn't itch at all as the morphsuit was very skin tight. The only thing I remember from this point was from being awake to being inside dream walking next to my friend in the forest on a gravel road, I knew that I was dreaming but not fully lucid, I only understood that I had no consequences. We continued to walk down the gravel road until it split up to right and left, and infront of it there was about 100 meters down and a floating gray house at the same height I was at. This was the point where I understood that I was fully dreaming and became fully lucid, I quickly thought of what I wanted to do, I thought that it wouldn't last long, so I tried to make the best out of it, I started flying over the woods for about 15 seconds, and the experience was amazing! I was suprised how easy it was to control the dream.

Now here's the question, which method did I use to achive this incredible Lucid Dream? Im very unsure as I don't remember anything between being awake and being inside dream, I forgot to look at the time after I woke up, but it wasn't for too long, might just been how long the dream lasted.

      Thanks in advance, happy dreams!

Good work on having a lucid dream!

Spontaneous LDs do happen and they don't require a method, as they are by definition spontaneous... Applying a method means applying intention, so if you didn't specifically intend to dream, there might be no method to how you became lucid.

In this case, reasons for becoming lucid could be:
      - you read or saw something about lucid dreaming earlier that day
      - you recognized a specific dream sign in your dream
      - your dream was just more visually vivid than usual so something "clicked" for you
      - etc.

Try going over the previous day and see what else you were thinking, reading, or talking about (even small clues can help). Also, go over the dream details to see if there were any specific recurring dream signs that you can use again in the future (eg. does that particular friend show up in a lot of your dreams?)

      Good luck

Unless I misunderstood you, you had a DILD. You were dreaming and, while inside the dream, you realised that it wasn't real.

As for using this experience to help you achieve more lucid dreams, I suggest you start working on reality checks and all-day-awareness. They're very helpful for DILDs!

      And congratulations on your lucid!!!

I agree it's a spontaneous DILD. I noted two things that can improved the chances for spontaneous DILD:

      - You were awake until 5AM. If that's unusually long, then you would have experienced REM rebound which is often a DILD booster.

      - You were sleeping in unusual conditions (the zentai suit). When you sleep in new and unfamiliar conditions, your mind tends to be more alert (for danger, protection, etc). This makes your sleep lighter and improves general awareness. Same thing happens sleeping in hotels, on the couch, in sunlight, or anything out of the ordinary.

I am sure about illusion. I am not so sure about reality.

What a great point - I found out myself, that sleeping in different places - like on holidays - is helpful, but didn't think it through yet.
Also I read about people using couches for LD-attempts.
Now - this whole theory of yours makes a lot of sense and has practical applications!
      Let's go sleep unusually!

Just a thought - what about wrong way round in bed?? Rather easy, if it worked..
And keep switching..? Probably all runs dead with enough acclimatisation having gone down before, though.
