Not cultivating enough lucid behaviour ?

One thing that i usually do, in my daytime practices, is to put effort in cultivating a critical reflective mind. But i think i forget to deal with my waking life reality with the same equanimity, poise, balance and ease that i aspire to do in my lucid dreams - and so, how can i expect that to happen in my dreams as well ? Do we put too much effort in techniques which after all can´t influence the way we will behave in a lucid dream ? I mean, how can someone ( hope i'm not ) who succumbs quickly to negative emotions and gets easily drawn by life hassles, hope to behave with clarity and full control in a lucid dream ??
